About The Position

The School of Computer Science (SoCS) is seeking an Instructional Assistant to support the delivery and coordination of course infrastructure, assessment systems, and operational tools. This role is crucial for enabling technically rigorous student learning experiences in undergraduate Computer Science and Software Engineering courses. The SoCS is a large academic unit with a significant student enrollment and a tradition of high-quality experiential learning, emphasizing hands-on programming, software engineering, and computing infrastructure.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate Degree in Computer Science or closely related field.
  • Minimum 2 years experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience as a teacher or teaching assistant in a higher-education institution preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support the provisioning of instruction using TAs and departmental infrastructure for undergraduate Computer Science and Software Engineering courses.
  • Collaborate with faculty, teaching assistants (TAs), and systems analysts to ensure computing tools, environments, workflows, and labs meet instructional requirements.
  • Support the deployment of autograders, setup of course-specific tooling, and coordination of TA logistics and teaching delivery for large courses (300-600 students per lecture section).
  • Develop and maintain operational documentation.
  • Assist with the delivery and invigilation of makeup exams.
  • Coordinate and ensure teaching consistency among large groups of TAs across courses.
  • Ensure infrastructure for assessment delivery and academic integrity tools is properly configured and supported.
  • Liaise with Student Accessibility Services (SAS) to implement infrastructure accommodations and support AODA compliance.
  • Monitor tool performance and recommend continuous improvements for reliable and equitable access to course infrastructure.
  • Stay current with technical tools and pedagogical technologies to support the instructional team in creating a responsive, inclusive, and high-quality experiential learning experience for students.
