About The Position

This role involves photographing and fingerprinting new inmates and employees, preparing employee and inmate ID cards, and maintaining ID files. The officer is responsible for preparing and sending fingerprint cards to BCI, maintaining records of all fingerprint cards sent and returned, and identifying special problems such as criminal history reports of employees or applicants, which must be immediately reported to the supervisor and the Personnel Department. The position requires maintaining confidential and secure files, all related records, and preparing and issuing clear, concise reports. Additionally, the officer must enforce all custody and security rules, perform custody duties similar to a correction officer when required, attend training at the institution, and maintain qualifications in weapons, unarmed self-defense, and other required areas. Other related duties as assigned include developing and maintaining offender images for escape flyers.

Requirements

  • Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals & percentages & in reading, writing & speaking common English vocabulary
  • 2 courses or 6 mos. exp. in photography & use & maintenance of related equipment
  • 2 courses or 6 mos. exp. in fingerprinting methods, techniques & use & maintenance of equipment
  • Equivalent of the Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment

Responsibilities

  • Photographs and fingerprints all new inmates and employees
