About The Position

Red Hook Initiative (RHI) is a community-based nonprofit dedicated to improving the lives of residents in Red Hook Houses, Brooklyn's largest public housing complex. RHI focuses on empowering youth and fostering community-led social change. The organization nurtures young people to be inspired, resilient, and healthy, equipping them with the tools, resources, and opportunities to overcome systemic inequities. RHI's innovative, place-based approach has been nationally recognized for its impact over its 24-year history. The Institutional Giving Manager will be responsible for driving RHI's foundation and government revenues, which are projected to be $2.2M and $1M respectively in FY26. This role requires exceptional writing skills, meticulous record-keeping, strong collaborative abilities, and the capacity to represent RHI's mission effectively to institutional supporters. The manager will oversee all aspects of foundation and government revenue, including prospect research, opportunity evaluation, proposal and report writing and submission, and managing renewal or closeout processes. This position will collaborate closely with the Senior Director of Development on revenue strategy and stewardship, the Development Assistant on procurement and records management, and the Senior Manager of Communications on messaging and storytelling.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years progressive experience in grant writing and grants management
  • 3-5 years progressive responsibility of a foundation and/or government portfolio
  • Excellent persuasive writing skills and ability to synthesize and interpret internal inputs for external audiences
  • Strong project management skills and ability to manage multiple concurrent deadlines and priorities
  • Adaptability in shifting priorities and deadlines
  • High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Willing to adjust work hours as required by deadlines and be in the office more than 3 days per week, with open communication and supervisory support
  • Willingness to support development team projects such as events and year-end appeals
  • Passion for RHI's mission and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with Salesforce, Google Suite, Microsoft Office, Adobe, Dropbox preferred
  • Some experience in a Brooklyn or NYC community-based organization preferred
  • Some experience in a youth development or social services nonprofit organization preferred

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary writer and submission lead for foundation and government grants and contracts.
  • Develop compelling proposals and reports aligned with funder priorities.
  • Synthesize programmatic and financial inputs into clear external narratives.
  • Maintain a comprehensive calendar of grant deadlines.
  • Manage internal timelines to ensure timely and accurate submissions.
  • Track proposal, reporting, and renewal cycles across all institutional funding.
  • Collaborate with program staff and finance to gather required inputs.
  • Partner with Development Assistant to maintain records in Salesforce, Google Drive, and Dropbox.
  • Align with the Senior Manager of Communications on messaging and storytelling.
  • Identify and evaluate new foundation and government funding opportunities.
  • Conduct research to align opportunities with RHI programs and revenue goals.
  • Support the design and execution of institutional engagement strategies.
  • Coordinate touch points and relationship building efforts with funders.
