About The Position

The Oregon Department of Corrections (DOC) is seeking a highly skilled, mission-driven Correctional Institution Manager 1 to join the executive leadership team at South Fork Forest Camp (SFFC). This key leader serves as the Superintendent’s primary advisor on security operations, institutional safety, emergency response, and interagency coordination with the Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF). This role offers a unique blend of correctional leadership, operational management, and statewide emergency response coordination — including oversight of Oregon’s largest AIC wildland firefighting program. This is a job rotation opportunity estimated to last 12 months or less. Requirements

  • Five (5) years of lead work, supervision, or progressively related experience; OR Two (2) years of related experience AND a bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Managing security or operational programs in a correctional or public safety environment.
  • Experience supervising and evaluating staff in a structured or chain‑of‑command organization, including assigning work, reviewing performance, and supporting professional development.
  • Conducting administrative, personnel, or operational investigations, including documentation, evidence review and formal reporting.
  • Experience participating in or coordinating emergency response or critical incident operations, such as field deployments, incident command support, or multi-agency response.
  • Overseeing program resources, including staffing schedules, procurement, budget monitoring and equipment oversight.
  • Experience applying administrative rules, operating procedures, regulatory requirements, or collective bargaining agreements in daily operations.
  • Experience working in a remote/satellite facility environment where your leadership isn’t onsite daily.
  • Must be a current ODOC or OCE employee and attach current supervisor’s approval with application materials.
  • Must pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility.
  • Must complete an I-9 and confirm authorization to work in the United States within three days of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee all institutional security functions.
  • Ensure compliance with laws, policies and ACA standards.
  • Supervise Lieutenants, Sergeants, Officers and staff deployment.
  • Advise leadership on security, safety and sanitation issues.
  • Conduct or direct investigations involving staff and AICs.
  • Approve operational purchases and support daily facility needs.
  • Provide security oversight for ODF staff supervising AIC work crews.
  • Support field operations including wildfire response, reforestation and trail work.
  • Respond with ODF to emergencies in remote locations.
  • Lead DOC fire ground operations and annual crew readiness.
  • Oversee the DOC Fire Dispatch Center.
  • Coordinate deployment of 300+ AIC firefighters and 70+ DOC staff.
  • Serve as primary liaison with ODF, fire camp commanders, and institutional fire teams.
  • Serve on the SFFC and statewide Security Management Teams.
  • Act as Officer‑in‑Charge or Acting Superintendent as needed.
  • Provide oversight for select AIC services and facility operations.
