Installation Engineer

MEVION MEDICAL SYSTEMS INC•Littleton, MA
•$39 - $41•Onsite

About The Position

The Installation Engineer installs, integrates, and performs initial verification of Mevion’s S250i and S250-FIT proton therapy systems at customer sites. The work includes heavy mechanical rigging, precision electromechanical assembly, and light software and electronics troubleshooting in a regulated medical device environment. Installation Engineers work in small teams, typically of two to three people, and follow Work Instructions (WIs), communicate with teammates and project management, and complete thorough handoffs when arriving onsite or transitioning off a project. The role also supports continuous improvement by identifying procedural gaps and helping update installation documentation and work practices. The position includes assisting with procurement, calibration, and management of installation tools and equipment; assessing site readiness; and moving and placing heavy components using approved rigging equipment. The engineer must follow safety procedures, including lockout/tagout, fall protection, lifting protocols, and site-specific rules, and work safely around high magnetic fields, high voltages, radiation-producing devices, and compressed or cryogenic gases. The role requires physical activity such as standing for extended periods, climbing stairs and ladders, bending, kneeling, and working in confined or restricted positions. The engineer routinely lifts, carries, pushes, or pulls up to 25 pounds; heavier loads are handled with lifting devices or team assistance. Routine exposure to magnetic fields above 5 gauss means individuals with pacemakers, automatic defibrillators, or similar implants are not eligible. Second-shift work or extended hours may be required to meet project or testing milestones.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in electronics, mechanical engineering technology, mechatronics, or a related discipline preferred; equivalent technical or military experience is considered.
  • 3–10 years of hands-on experience installing, maintaining, or troubleshooting large electromechanical or industrial equipment.
  • Ability to function effectively in a small installation team with shared responsibilities.
  • Skill using power tools, precision measurement tools, and mechanical assembly equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and layout specifications.
  • Proficiency documenting installation activities, deviations, and troubleshooting steps.
  • Experience operating rigging equipment such as forklifts, hoists, or similar devices.
  • Proficiency with standard office software, including Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods; climb stairs and ladders; bend, kneel, and work in confined or restricted positions.

  • Ability to work in confined spaces and use fall-protection equipment as required.
  • Must be able to use standard office equipment, including computers and communication tools.
  • Individuals with pacemakers, automatic defibrillators, or similar implants are not eligible due to routine exposure to magnetic fields above 5 gauss.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with high-voltage systems, high-vacuum systems, RF equipment, or cryogenic/superconducting systems.
