Inspector, Pollution Control
About The Position
At Peel Region, pollution control is a critical aspect of our commitment to environmental stewardship and public health. We employ advanced technologies and stringent regulations to ensure strict quality standards, ensuring the well-being of our communities now and in future. This position will participate in the development of the division and lead the implementation of key strategic priorities as well as oversee daily operations of the water and wastewater plants, water distribution and wastewater collection systems and protection of the infrastructure and environment through the administration and enforcement of various bylaws while aligning emerging business needs with long term strategic resource needs.
Requirements
- A satisfactory Level 1 Criminal Record Check obtained directly from a police station (third-party background checks will not be accepted).
- University Degree in science or related field, or Chemical Technology Diploma with a Certified Engineering Technologist designation.
- Three (3) years related experience. A combination of relevant education and work experience will also be considered.
- Valid Class “G” Ontario license in good standing.
- Bylaw enforcement experience would be an asset.
- Good judgment and problem-solving skills.
- Strong report writing skills with a keen eye for attention to details.
- Strong administrative skills and proficiency with MS Office.
- Strong public relations, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities
- Oversee the implementation and enforcement of the Wastewater Bylaw.
- Conduct inspections of industrial facilities across Peel Region to verify compliance with the bylaw, ensuring environmental compliance, and safeguarding wastewater treatment facilities.
- Maintain the safety and security of Peel's residents, industries, and the natural environment.
- Review lab analyses of industrial discharges and determine appropriate enforcement actions.
- Review industrial sewer charge appeals, sanitary discharge approvals and administer the surcharge and compliance agreements.
- Provide technical advice regarding regulations and legislation.
- Lead meetings with external partners, agencies and staff.
- Conduct abatement meetings with noncompliant industries.
- Prepare daily, monthly, annual and disclosure reports and act as an expert witness as required.
- As a Provincial Offences Officer, conduct investigations for the prosecution of offenders of the sewer use by-law in consultation with the Supervisor, Pollution Control and Regional Legal Counsel.
