Under general supervision, this role inspects and tests weighing and measuring devices, petroleum products, and packaged commodities for labeled content and retail price verification. The Inspector carries out, interprets, and enforces policies and procedures related to inspection activities, explains applicable laws, policies, rules, and regulations to employees, businesses, and the public, and maintains records and prepares reports on inspection activities. This position performs essential duties including investigating complaints concerning illegal weights and measures practices, conducting field tests of various weighing and measuring devices, inspecting pre-packaged meats and other packaged commodities, enforcing state and county laws related to weights and measures by issuing warning notices and citations, taking samples of gasoline and other petroleum products, answering questions from the general public related to weights and measures, serving as a source of information and maintaining good public relations, assisting with annually calibrating all field standards and on-the-job training, and writing daily inspection reports and investigative reports as required by law. Inspections are performed primarily at off-site locations and may require a moderate degree of physical exertion including lifting and carrying up to fifty (50) pounds; bending; stooping; climbing; crouching; reaching; kneeling; and manual dexterity.
