The Inspector I ensures internal and external customers receive high-quality ambulances by inspecting paint application and finish, identifying defects, and ensuring necessary corrections are made before shipment. The role also inspects and function-tests emergency vehicles, verifies options against orders, and performs cosmetic sign-off. The inspector works with limited supervision, sets priorities to meet production goals, updates tracking and defect records, and reports design or assembly improvements, schedule issues, and maintenance concerns. The role includes water testing, leak repair, weighing vehicles, road testing, and training new inspectors as needed. The employee must follow departmental work instructions, company conduct and attendance rules, and hazardous-waste handling, spill-response, and evacuation procedures. The work involves frequent standing and walking, handling tools and controls, and reaching. Duties may also require climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, sitting, and communicating. Physical requirements include occasionally lifting or moving up to 40 pounds without assistance, working from squatting, kneeling, or bending positions, reaching overhead, using ladders or scaffolding, and standing at a workstation for up to ten hours a day, less specified breaks. The inspector must safely use specified tools and machinery and protective safety equipment, and have the vision and hand-eye coordination needed for inspection work. Work takes place near moving mechanical parts and may involve fumes or airborne particles, vibration, occasional exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, and usually loud noise; noisy and dusty conditions are also noted. Recommended or required PPE includes safety glasses, earplugs, closed-toe shoes, and a safety harness when needed.
