About The Position

This role involves engineering, sizing, and selecting valves, actuators, and instrumentation solutions to address complex process automation challenges. The Inside Sales Engineer will analyze customer requirements, recommend technical and commercial solutions, prepare proposals and quotations, and follow up on opportunities to help customers advance their projects. Building trusted customer relationships through responsive support and technical guidance is key. The position requires collaboration with internal teams (Account Managers, Order Management, Accounting, Shop) and external partners (sales teams, subject matter experts, business unit leaders, Emerson, and other strategic suppliers) to develop effective strategies for key opportunities. A deep understanding of Caltrol’s products, technologies, and automation solutions is essential, along with a commitment to continuous learning and expanding technical capabilities. The goal is to contribute to revenue growth and help customers improve reliability, efficiency, safety, and operational performance through innovative automation solutions.

Requirements

  • A degree in engineering or another STEM-related field, relevant military technical experience, or equivalent hands-on experience in industrial technology, process automation, instrumentation, valves, or technical sales.
  • Previous technical sales or process automation experience is preferred but not required. Training will be provided to candidates with strong technical aptitude and a willingness to learn.
  • Experience interpreting technical specifications, drawings, data sheets, or customer requirements is preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn quotation, CRM, and ERP systems.
  • Strong communication, relationship-building, and customer service skills, with the ability to translate technical information into practical solutions.
  • The ability to analyze technical information, apply sound business judgment, and recommend effective solutions.
  • A collaborative mindset and confidence working with customers, teammates, suppliers, and subject matter experts in a fast-paced environment.
  • A commitment to continuous learning, accountability, responsiveness, and delivering high-quality results.

Nice To Haves

  • Relevant military technical experience, or equivalent hands-on experience in industrial technology, process automation, instrumentation, valves, or technical sales.
  • Operation, maintenance, or troubleshooting of shipboard pumps, including: Centrifugal pumps, Positive displacement pumps, Feedwater pumps, Condensate pumps, Fuel oil transfer pumps, Lube oil pumps, Fire pumps, Seawater cooling pumps
  • Experience with industrial and marine valve systems, including: Globe valves, Gate valves, Ball valves, Butterfly valves, Check valves, Pressure relief valves, Control valves, Pneumatically or hydraulically actuated valves
  • Knowledge of steam, condensate, and boiler systems, including: Boilers and auxiliary boilers, Steam distribution systems, Heat exchangers, Condensers, Feedwater systems
  • Familiarity with hydraulic and pneumatic systems, including: Hydraulic power units (HPUs), Hydraulic actuators, Pneumatic controls, Fluid power systems
  • Experience reading and interpreting: P&IDs, Engineering drawings, Technical manuals, Equipment specifications, Maintenance procedures

  • Prepare accurate proposals and quotations, follow up on opportunities, and help customers move projects forward.
  • Build trusted customer relationships by providing responsive support, technical guidance, and exceptional service throughout the sales cycle.
  • Partner with Account Managers, Order Management, Accounting, and Shop teams to support smooth order execution and a positive customer experience.
  • Collaborate with sales teams, subject matter experts, business unit leaders, Emerson, and other strategic suppliers to develop effective strategies for key opportunities.
  • Develop deep knowledge of Caltrol’s products, technologies, and automation solutions while continuously expanding your technical capabilities.
  • Contribute to revenue growth and help customers improve reliability, efficiency, safety, and operational performance through innovative automation solutions.
