About The Position

Hajoca Corporation is seeking an Inside Sales/Counter Salesperson for their Harrisonburg, VA location. Hajoca is one of the country’s largest privately-held wholesale distributors of plumbing, heating & cooling, and industrial supplies, founded in 1858. The company operates on principles of “Service, Integrity, Reliability” and values relationships of trust and support. Hajoca operates in a decentralized environment where each location, called a Profit Center (PC), is run like a small business, typically including a warehouse, counter, sales office, and sometimes a showroom. The Harrisonburg PC will be run by the Profit Center Manager, offering a customized business approach tailored to the local marketplace. This role is crucial for driving sales, building customer relationships, and supporting overall Profit Center operations.

Requirements

  • 1 year of experience in customer service or inside sales & Counter Sales contractor sales preferred.
  • Knowledge of products sold in the Profit Center preferred
  • Use Microsoft Office software (Outlook, Word, Excel) to communicate via email, to maintain weekly sales plans, call reports, customer contact files, and to analyze customer data.
  • Outstanding customer service, telephone/verbal communication, and generous listening skills.
  • Demonstrate product knowledge to answer customer questions and identify opportunities to upsell or cross sell.
  • Build influential relationships and trust with customers and vendors through open and interactive communication.
  • Able to ask probing questions to understand customer needs, overcome objections by recommending profitable solutions, explain our value-added services, ask for the order and close the sale.
  • Able to build positive working relationships and inspire teamwork with co-workers.
  • Able to learn and operate the computer related systems used to process orders.
  • Able to learn to operate warehouse material-handling equipment.
  • Read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Add, subtract, multiply, and divide, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Responsibilities

  • Meet or exceed sales targets established by your Manager.
  • Work with PCM to establish revenue and margin targets.
  • Accurately process Sales Orders and Bids generated through telephone sales transactions.
  • Assist customers who pick up their order at our Profit Center.
  • Find innovative ways to grow sales with existing customers and become their trusted advisor.
  • Generate sales leads that develop into new customers.
  • Identify opportunities for value-added services and articulate our solutions.
  • Investigate and resolve customer problems, address pricing deductions and material returns timely and in accordance with Company policy and procedure, follow up to ensure resolution and customer satisfaction.
  • Support Counter and Outside Sales activities and all Profit Center activities as part of our Profit Center team.
  • Communicate to the Profit Center Manager and Credit Manager any changes in a customer’s business that might cause a credit risk.
  • Successfully complete required safety and compliance training programs as assigned.
  • Perform other reasonably related duties as assigned by immediate supervisor and other management as required.
  • Confidently assist customers who purchase and/or pick up merchandise at the Profit Center.
  • Accurately process and fill Sales Orders generated at the sales counter.
  • Attract and retain customers.
  • Verify the Pick Ticket ship date is the date the material is picked up by the customer, update accordingly, and obtain customer signature before releasing material.
  • Provide customers with reliable information regarding product specifications, pricing, and availability.
  • Keep the counter area and merchandise displays clean, neat, current, stocked and safely displayed.
  • Ensure security and control is upheld at this primary point of customer contact.
  • Process cash sale returns and refund paperwork in accordance with Company policy and procedure.
  • Inform supervisor of inventory levels or stock depletions that could impact customer service levels.
  • Assist co-workers in servicing customers, including answering incoming calls, stocking merchandise in the warehouse, and pulling orders for delivery.
