About The Position

This Summer Intern position in Inside Sales & Business Development focuses on generating new business opportunities through outbound prospecting and cold calling. The intern will research target accounts, identify and qualify leads, and support lead generation campaigns. They will also assist in market mapping, competitive intelligence gathering, and tracking outreach effectiveness. The role requires collaboration with sales and marketing teams and adherence to company core values. The intern will apply their skills to various assigned duties.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong interest in sales, marketing, or commercial roles, particularly within a technical or industrial environment.
  • Comfortable conducting high-volume outbound calls and engaging with new contacts professionally.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to research and synthesize information quickly.
  • Self-motivated, resilient, and results-oriented with demonstrated initiative through coursework, internships, or extracurricular activities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • High activity orientation: top performers will demonstrate consistent outreach volume and the ability to convert cold contacts into qualified opportunities.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with CRM tools (Salesforce preferred)
  • Interest in technical or industrial products — analytical instrumentation, sensors, or complex capital equipment — is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to quickly grasp technical concepts and translate them into clear, value-based messaging.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct outbound prospecting and cold calling to generate new business opportunities across the PI install base and target accounts.
  • Research and build target account lists across key vertical markets including semiconductor, industrial gas, and pharmaceuticals.
  • Identify and qualify leads aligned to defined application areas and buying signals; document all activity accurately in Salesforce.
  • Support execution of lead generation campaigns via email, phone, and LinkedIn outreach in coordination with sales and marketing teams.
  • Assist in market mapping and competitive intelligence gathering to support commercial strategy.
  • Track outreach effectiveness and provide weekly reporting on pipeline activity, outreach volume, and conversion metrics.
  • Collaborate with Regional Sales Managers and marketing to refine targeting strategies and value-based messaging.
  • Apply PI core values to all tasks and responsibilities: operational excellence, communication, service-mindedness, innovation, integrity, and collaboration.
