The Inpatient Registered Nurse (RN CAP 2) provides and coordinates clinically competent care for an assigned group of patients, including assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation. The role may be an entry-level designation in the Clinical Advancement Program for new employees who meet RN CAP 2 criteria, or may be attained through advancement from CAP 1. The RN may delegate appropriate tasks to direct patient care staff, including RNs, LVN/LPNs, and Patient Care Technicians. As a member of the kidney disease health care team, the RN participates in decision-making, patient and family teaching, leadership, and quality improvement activities that support patient outcomes and program operations. The RN performs duties under the direction of a Supervisor and with guidance from an Educator, Preceptor, or another Registered Nurse. The role includes providing modality-specific treatment, monitoring patient responses, administering prescribed medications and transfusions, coordinating care with internal and external providers, and responding to emergencies. The position may include oversight of patient care staff as a designated Nurse in Charge after specified training and experience requirements are met. The work involves direct patient care in a health care facility and may require work at other assigned locations, travel between facilities and to training or meeting sites, and participation in an on-call rotation. Physical demands include frequent standing, bending, lifting, moving patients, and occasionally moving equipment or lifting chemical and water solutions. Employees must take the Ishihara Color Blindness test as a condition of employment; failing the test does not preclude employment, and reasonable accommodation may be considered.
