About The Position

Jefferson County's Innovation Team, housed within the Business Innovation and Technology Department, is dedicated to fostering innovation to transform government services. The team manages projects and programs including process improvement training, innovation programs and internships, technology evaluations, and project management for service improvements. The Innovation Internship Program hosts cohorts of interns each semester and summer, offering hands-on experience in civic innovation, emerging technologies, and transformational initiatives. The program emphasizes community building, mentoring, networking, and professional development in a hybrid environment. This specific internship supports the Jeffco Innovation Lab (JIL), the county's hub for employee innovation, which offers courses and programs to empower employees in transforming county services. The intern will assist in facilitating workshops and events, coordinating planning activities, and supporting employees across the county in service transformation efforts.

Requirements

  • Interest in pursuing opportunities in government innovation.
  • Interest in the intersection of technology and how organizations deliver high-quality services.
  • Familiarity with process improvement, human-centered design, and change management.
  • Interest in and experience facilitating events and presentations.
  • Enthusiasm for enhancing employee and community member experiences by delivering thoughtful, service-oriented solutions.
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Adaptable as both a supportive team player and leader.
  • Experience taking initiative and showing leadership on a project’s direction.
  • Criminal History and MVR Background Checks are required.
  • A valid Colorado driver’s license is required for positions that drive on County Business within 30-days of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • 2 years of education or experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Interest/experience in facilitating groups and delivering training.
  • Interest/experience in designing engagement opportunities to promote innovation.
  • Interest/experience in innovation frameworks and methodologies related to: process improvement methodologies such as Lean or Six-Sigma, or Human-centered design.

Responsibilities

  • Provide operational support for Jeffco Innovation Lab programs (Process Improvement, Change Management, Human-Centered Design), including promoting offerings, scheduling courses, tracking attendance, and communicating with participants.
  • Design materials for Jeffco Innovation Lab course offerings.
  • Co-facilitate trainings and workshops for employees.
  • Develop and provide tools, resources, and platforms to support employee innovation.
  • Design and facilitate lunch and learn style engagement opportunities for employees.
  • Partner with county staff on the continuous improvement journey.
  • Enhance the Innovation Team’s brand through online engagement and communications.
