About The Position

The Arizona Secretary of State’s Office Initiative Internship Program provides students who are interested in public service the opportunity to spend 5 weeks (June 29, 2026, to July 31, 2026) working with the Elections Division. The Elections Division is looking for students who want to learn about election administration and support the initiative review process leading up to the 2026 election. As a summer intern with the Elections Division, interns will observe how state government functions and attend trainings related to election administration. Interns will learn how to research state statutes and the requirements of Arizona’s initiative process. Interns will contribute to the team by reviewing initiative petition sheets and complying with statutory requirements. Students or recent graduates interested in public service and witnessing democracy in action are encouraged to apply. HireRight must be used for Background Checks and Drug Screenings. Local Only Candidates - Resumes must specify the current location of the candidate, all those who do not state current location will not be considered. Candidates must be local at time of submission, and available for in person interviews within 1 week of the posting close date. Candidates must also be able to start within 2 weeks of an offer being made.

Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time
  • Must be enrolled at, or a graduate of, a university, community college, or technical school. Graduating high school seniors and high school juniors may also apply.
  • Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75
  • Must be able to participate full-time from June 29, 2026, to July 31, 2026, including weekends, the 4th of July holiday and overtime.
  • Must be at least 16 years old

Nice To Haves

  • Coursework in public policy, public administration, government or law is preferred
  • Demonstrated interest in public service
