LAPORTE is looking for a senior food process engineer with ideally 7 to 10 years of experience in chemical or food process engineering to join its team at our Brossard office, located in the DIX30 district. Our engineer will be responsible for the design, optimization, and implementation of food processes for plants in the greater Montreal area.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in chemical, biotechnological, food, or other relevant engineering specialization
  • 7 to 10 years of experience, ideally in the food or pharmaceutical industry, with expertise in process design and optimization
  • Member of the Ordre des ingénieur.es du Québec (OIQ)
  • In-depth knowledge of food processes (processing, sterilization, drying, etc.)
  • Experience with process simulation software (e.g., SuperPro Designer, Aspen Hysys, Pipe-Flo)
  • Knowledge of food standards and regulations (CFIA, FDA, GFSI, ASME)
  • Work in person, at the client's site, for mandates of all durations, according to client needs
  • Experience in project management and interdisciplinary coordination
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Bachelor's degree in chemical, biotechnological, or other relevant engineering specialization.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in defining client needs for food process projects
  • Analyze client needs to determine optimal processes (processing, fermentation, pasteurization, etc.)
  • Perform mass and energy balances to optimize processes
  • Design and specify equipment (pumps, heat exchangers, control valves, reactors) and process installations
  • Calculate utility needs (steam, chilled water, compressed air) to support processes
  • Prepare process flow diagrams (PFD) and piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID)
  • Review and approve technical deliverables, including quotes and technical plans
  • Participate in risk analyses (HAZOP or others) to ensure safety and compliance
  • Coordinate installation, startup, validation, and commissioning of equipment on site
  • Manage relationships with suppliers and contractors, including tracking deliverables
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure compliance with food standards (CFIA, FDA, GFSI)
  • Establish and control project budgets and schedules, and present progress reports to clients
