About The Position

AtkinsRéalis is currently looking for an Industrial Electrical Principal Engineer to support the growth of its business and strengthen its well-established team of experts. As an Industrial Electrical Principal Engineer, you will act as a technical reference and leader within the organization. With your experience, you will be called upon to guide strategic decisions, coach and mobilize multidisciplinary teams, and ensure the completion of complex industrial projects while respecting quality, cost, schedule, and safety objectives. You will leverage your expertise to tackle large-scale technical challenges, develop innovative and high-performance solutions, and support our clients in modernizing and optimizing their facilities. Your role will include planning, coordinating, and supervising engineering activities, while ensuring effective collaboration between various internal and external stakeholders. Working within a team recognized for its excellence, you will play a key role in talent development, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement of engineering practices. You will actively contribute to the realization of strategic and high-value-added projects, from conceptual studies to commissioning and handover to operations. This opportunity is for a professional with a strong technical and business vision, capable of taking charge of complex mandates, leading teams towards achieving results, and building lasting relationships with clients and partners. The position is offered in one of our offices in Quebec City, Montreal, or Abitibi, depending on the preference of the selected candidate.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Be a registered member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ).
  • Possess a minimum of 15 years of relevant experience in industrial electrical engineering, including several years in a technical leadership or project management role.
  • Demonstrate solid experience in the Mining and Metals, Aluminum, Metallurgy, or similar industries.
  • Possess recognized expertise in the design and integration of low and medium voltage electrical distribution systems.
  • Master electrical studies, including short-circuit, protection coordination and selectivity, arc-flash, power quality, and grounding analyses.
  • Have excellent knowledge of applicable standards, codes, and regulations for industrial electrical installations.
  • Demonstrate proven ability to lead teams of engineers and technicians, act as a mentor to technical staff, and ensure the quality of engineering deliverables.
  • Have significant experience in complete project management, including planning, estimating, budget monitoring, risk management, and schedule adherence.
  • Possess excellent communication skills, client relations, and coordination with various project stakeholders.
  • Exhibit leadership, autonomy, professional rigor, and a strong ability to make decisions in complex environments.
  • Hold the card attesting to the successful completion of the Health and Safety Training for Construction Sites (ASP Construction).
  • Master the tools of the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) as well as MS Project or equivalent project management tools.
  • Master French, both spoken and written.
  • Have a good knowledge of English, both spoken and written, to interact with clients, suppliers, and multidisciplinary teams nationally and internationally (asset or requirement depending on job needs).
  • Experience in business development, preparation of service offers, and client account management is a significant asset.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the principal technical lead and reference in industrial electricity for major projects.
  • Lead, plan, and coordinate engineering activities throughout the project lifecycle, from feasibility study to commissioning.
  • Coach, mobilize, and develop a team of engineers, designers, and technicians, ensuring the quality of deliverables and skill development.
  • Ensure multidisciplinary coordination and liaison with clients, suppliers, contractors, and other stakeholders.
  • Supervise the design and preparation of plans, specifications, single-line diagrams, and associated technical documents for industrial electrical systems.
  • Review and approve detailed designs related to low and medium voltage electrical distribution networks, control systems, cable trays, equipment connections, and grounding systems.
  • Perform or supervise electrical network studies, including short-circuit, protection coordination and selectivity, arc-flash, power quality, and network stability studies.
  • Define protection philosophies and approve protection relay settings.
  • Prepare, review, and approve technical specifications for the acquisition of low and medium voltage electrical equipment.
  • Evaluate technical bids, participate in award recommendations, and monitor suppliers.
  • Ensure control of scope, schedules, budgets, and quality of mandates under your responsibility.
  • Provide technical support during construction, installation, testing, and commissioning phases.
  • Actively participate in business development, preparation of service offers, and establishment of lasting relationships with clients.
  • Identify technical and operational risks, propose innovative solutions, and ensure compliance with industry standards, codes, and best practices.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of work methods, engineering standards, and internal processes.
