About The Position
AECOM is seeking a Principal Geotechnical Engineer to join its Mine Tailings and Mine Waste Management team in Canada. The successful candidate will lead the design of tailings dams and serve as the Engineer of Record (EOR) for mine tailings management projects in Canada and internationally. This role emphasizes technical leadership and project execution, ensuring technical excellence and compliance with applicable regulatory requirements for mine tailings management. This position can be based in any of AECOM's Canadian offices.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering in a relevant discipline.
- Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in mine tailings and mine waste management.
- Previous experience as an Engineer of Record (EOR) for large mine tailings facilities.
- Valid driver's license.
Nice To Haves
- Master's degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
- Over 20 years of progressive experience in mine tailings management, ideally in Canada.
- Excellent collaboration skills and ability to develop strong working relationships within AECOM and with international project teams.
- Demonstrated experience in leadership and developing multidisciplinary teams.
- Good command of English for mandates outside Quebec.
Responsibilities
- Lead the technical execution of projects from conceptualization to detailed design for mine waste management facilities (e.g., tailings dams, filtered tailings storage facilities, co-disposal facilities, waste rock dumps) and water management infrastructure (e.g., mine water retention dams, seepage collection ponds).
- Serve as the Engineer of Record (EOR) for tailings dams or other similar embankment structures.
- Provide technical direction and mentorship to technical team members.
- Conduct independent technical reviews of engineering reports and designs.
- Advise clients on technical issues, including compliance with applicable regulations and standards.
- Actively participate in AECOM's Technical Practice Group.
- Collaborate with clients to develop long-term sustainable solutions.
