About The Position

As a Sr. Project Engineer supporting large power transformer manufacturing, you will help enhance the performance, competitiveness, and long-term success of the Varennes facility. Your work directly contributes to efficiency, reliability, and the ongoing modernization of transformer design and manufacturing—core elements that support the stability and advancement of the power grid. In this role, you will steer value engineering initiatives, identify cost‑out and productivity opportunities, and support the introduction of new products, technologies, and components. You will partner closely with factory operations, North America Engineering, and global technical teams to deliver manufacturing‑ready solutions that elevate quality and operational excellence. This position gives you the opportunity to run engineering projects end‑to-end, improve manufacturability, and help shape the future direction of transformer design and production.

Requirements

  • Candidate must already have work authorization that would permit them to work for Hitachi Energy in Canada.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering.
  • 5+ years of relevant engineering experience.
  • 3d modeling and design experience
  • Proficiency in French and English (spoken and written).
  • Legal authorization to work in the country where the role is based.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior power transformer design knowledge is preferred.
  • Proven experience running engineering projects and delivering measurable savings.

Responsibilities

  • Apply value engineering practices to enhance customer value, reduce cost, and improve profitability of existing product offerings.
  • Identify and drive productivity improvements using Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) methods.
  • Develop and present data‑driven business cases that support cost‑out initiatives and engineering improvements.
  • Manage engineering projects from concept through implementation, working independently and within cross‑functional teams.
  • Track and report project progress, risks, and outcomes, ensuring business impact is captured throughout each project stage.
  • Collaborate with Project Engineers, Value Engineers, and technical specialists across North America and global teams to strengthen design practices and share lessons learned.
  • Partner with factory operations teams to ensure engineering changes are manufacturable, cost‑effective, and aligned with operational requirements.
  • Lead the introduction of new products, technologies, materials, and components into the factory environment.
  • Responsible to ensure compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures, and guidelines.
