About The Position

This role focuses on providing infusion-based IV and oral therapy, including chemotherapy. The nurse will monitor patients receiving IV infusions, perform pre-infusion triage, and address patients’ psychological and physical needs. A key aspect of the role involves reviewing patient labs for therapy appropriateness, performing full patient assessments with proper documentation, and demonstrating proficiency in starting IVs, accessing ports, and maintaining central lines. The nurse must be able to assess patients for potential reactions and side effects of infusions, and possess knowledge of emergency and routine equipment and procedures. Maintaining patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA is crucial. The position also involves providing patient education on diagnoses, care plans, medications, symptom management, and follow-up requirements. Additionally, the role includes performing oncology triage, coordinating referrals, and other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Must be at least 18 years of age (21 for positions requiring driving, with a valid driver’s license).
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
Must successfully pass a background check.
Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen and breath alcohol test (if applicable).
Must complete an Employee Health meeting prior to starting employment.

Responsibilities

Infusion-based IV and oral therapy, including chemotherapy.
Monitors patients receiving IV infusions, including pre-infusion triage.
Recognizes and addresses patients’ psychological and physical needs.
Reviews patient labs for appropriateness of therapy.
Performs full patient assessment along with proper documentation.
Starts IVs, accesses ports, and maintains central lines within the scope of practice.
Assesses every patient for potential reactions and side effects of infusions.
Demonstrates knowledge of emergency and routine equipment and procedures.
Uses complete discretion when discussing patient information in accordance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
Uses safety devices as prescribed by the organization.
Provides patient education and treatment instruction, ensuring patients and families understand diagnoses, care plans, medications, symptom management, and follow-up requirements to promote safe and effective outcomes.
Performs oncology triage, assessing patient symptoms and treatment-related side effects, prioritizing care needs, providing clinical guidance, and coordinating timely interventions in collaboration with the oncology care team.
Coordinates referrals to outside medical facilities when necessary, facilitating continuity of care by arranging appointments, transferring medical records, and communicating with external providers to ensure appropriate follow-up and specialty services.
Performs other duties as assigned.
