Infrastructure Software Engineer

DepthFirst•San Francisco, CA

About The Position

depthfirst is building intelligence to detect and remediate critical software vulnerabilities by training and scaling security AI agents to discover zero-day vulnerabilities across customer codebases and open source software. The company is seeking an Infrastructure Software Engineer to build, scale, and secure the infrastructure that powers its platform. The role owns cloud and Kubernetes environments, as well as production services that manage sandboxes, orchestrate workloads, and control compute resources throughout their lifecycle. It combines infrastructure expertise with hands-on software engineering, including designing and developing infrastructure services and APIs, improving system reliability and efficiency, and strengthening compute security. Work spans application code, distributed systems, containers, networking, and cloud infrastructure. The engineer will own systems from architecture and implementation through deployment and ongoing operation, and help shape how the platform scales while remaining reliable, secure, and straightforward to operate. The role is based in or requires willingness to relocate to San Francisco.

Requirements

  • Experience building and operating cloud infrastructure and production systems in infrastructure engineering, platform engineering, SRE, or a similar role.
  • Strong hands-on knowledge of Kubernetes, including workload scheduling, networking, resource management, scaling, and troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with deployment architectures and concepts such as SaaS, Bring-Your-Own-Cloud, and air-gapped deployments.
  • Strong software engineering skills in a language such as Go, with experience designing, building, and maintaining production services.
  • Experience developing distributed systems, including handling concurrency, retries, partial failures, and resource lifecycle management.
  • Solid understanding of Linux, containers, networking, and cloud security fundamentals.
  • Experience with infrastructure as code, CI/CD, and production observability.
  • Ability to reason about tradeoffs between reliability, security, performance, cost, and operational complexity.
  • Ability to take ownership from design and implementation through deployment and ongoing operation.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work through ambiguous problems with other engineers.
  • Based in or willing to relocate to San Francisco.

Nice To Haves

  • Deep experience with AWS and EKS, Helm, and Terraform or Pulumi.
  • Experience building infrastructure control planes, Kubernetes controllers, operators, or workload orchestration systems.
  • Experience with sandboxing, virtualization, or secure execution environments.
  • Experience supporting workloads with high concurrency or rapidly changing compute demand.
  • Experience building infrastructure for AI platforms, developer tools, or security products.

Responsibilities

  • Build and operate cloud infrastructure and Kubernetes clusters supporting production systems and engineering teams.
  • Design and develop production sandbox management and orchestration services, including APIs and distributed coordination for allocation, isolation, health monitoring, failure recovery, and resource lifecycle management.
  • Improve workload scheduling, autoscaling, and capacity management to support growing and variable demand.
  • Strengthen infrastructure security through workload isolation, access controls, network policies, and secure configuration.
  • Improve performance and cost efficiency by reducing startup latency, increasing resource utilization, and addressing system bottlenecks.
  • Build observability and operational tooling to help engineers understand system behavior and resolve problems quickly.
  • Debug production issues across service code, Kubernetes, Linux, networking, and cloud infrastructure, and implement durable fixes.
  • Improve infrastructure as code, deployment pipelines, and upgrade processes to make changes repeatable and reliable.
  • Own systems from architecture and implementation through deployment and ongoing operation.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary with meaningful equity.
  • Health, vision, and dental insurance.
  • Office lunch and dinner when working from the San Francisco office.
  • Direct ownership of foundational systems and influence over technical direction.
  • Opportunity to work at the cutting edge of AI and security.
