Infrastructure Manager

IPinfoSeattle, WA

About The Position

We're looking for a hands-on Infrastructure Manager to lead our infra team. This isn't a purely strategic or people-management role, we need someone who still enjoys being in the weeds: debugging a noisy alert at 2 AM, reviewing a Terraform PR, or getting on a call mid-incident to help mitigate a DDoS attack in real time. You'll own the reliability, scalability, and security of infrastructure that handles high-volume, latency-sensitive traffic at global scale, while growing and mentoring a small team of engineers.

Requirements

  • 8+ years in infrastructure/SRE/platform engineering roles, including significant hands-on scaling experience
  • 5+ years of experience managing or leading an infrastructure/SRE team, while staying technically hands-on
  • Proven experience defending large-scale services against DDoS attacks (mitigation strategies, tooling, live incident response not just theoretical knowledge)
  • Deep experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS/GCP/Azure), networking fundamentals (BGP, DNS, CDN, load balancing), and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, Ansible, etc.)
  • Strong Linux systems knowledge and experience operating distributed, high-availability systems at scale
  • Track record of leading incident response for critical, customer-facing infrastructure
  • Comfortable balancing technical depth with people leadership as this role is genuinely both
  • Excellent communication skills; able to explain technical trade-offs to both engineers and leadership

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with high-volume API infrastructure or data-heavy platforms
  • Familiarity with Anycast networking and edge/CDN architectures
  • Background in a company that has weathered significant/sustained DDoS campaigns
  • Contributions to open-source infra tooling

Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor the infrastructure team while remaining directly involved in architecture, coding, and operations
  • Own the design and evolution of infrastructure serving high-throughput, low-latency workloads at scale
  • Lead DDoS mitigation strategy and incident response from architecture-level protections to live handling of active attacks
  • Drive capacity planning, cost optimization, and performance tuning across the stack
  • Improve observability, alerting, and on-call practices to reduce time-to-detect and time-to-resolve
  • Own infrastructure security posture in collaboration with the security function
  • Balance team growth and process maturity with the need to keep shipping and firefighting when it matters
  • Participate in on-call rotation
