About The Position

The Infrastructure Inspector I performs a variety of independent skilled work under general supervision in water and wastewater collection systems to track defects and report asset conditions. They are responsible for providing quality videos, reports and overall condition index scores to determine future rehab and repair projects by providing condition information to management. The Infrastructure Inspector I is part of a two-level career progression of Infrastructure Inspector I and II.

Requirements

  • Previous plumbing or similar experience in Wastewater Collections
  • Comfort with advanced knowledge of computers and technology within the Wastewater Collections field
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • A valid driver's license and favorable driving record are required.
  • Five years of relevant and progressively responsible experience in water or wastewater system maintenance, inspection and/or construction experience is preferred.
  • College-level coursework in construction management, civil engineering or a related field is preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Class A CDL with air brake and tanker endorsement (required within six months of hire)
  • Class I Wastewater Collection System Operator certification (required within one year of hire)
  • NASSCO PACP/MACP certification (required within one year of hire)

Responsibilities

  • Conducts sanitary sewer inspections using CCTV equipment and manhole scanners to assess and document PACP defects and asset conditions; inspects new construction, service connections, manholes, mainlines, and repairs to existing service lines and mains to ensure compliance with City standards and project completion requirements.
  • Interprets wastewater and water system plans, specifications, and codes; identifies, responds to, and resolves violations related to new service connections, collection mains, and service lines; evaluates system issues to recommend or implement corrective action.
  • Maintains accurate records by completing permits, inspection logs, reports, correspondence, and database updates in EnerGov and related systems; coordinates and schedules inspections, plumbers, and contractors and provides customer service that reflects positively on the City.
  • Supports utility operations through preventive and corrective maintenance activities, safe operation of a wide range of vehicles, tools, and equipment and adheres to City safety and operating procedures; performs on-call, overtime, snow operations, and both independent and team-based work as required.
  • Uses highly technical equipment utilizing CCTV equipment to view sewer lines with a camera.
  • Enters findings into systems like Cartegraph, Wincan, EnerGov and GIS.
  • Sends out related tasks for follow up.
  • Responds to citizen requests or odor complaints.
  • Locates services.
  • Assists other departments.
