About The Position

American Express is seeking an experienced network engineer to join its Data Center network engineering team and support the deployment of data center network infrastructure. The role builds and supports infrastructure using platforms and technologies such as Cisco Nexus and Arista switching platforms. The engineer participates in system analysis, requirements gathering, design and implementation documentation, configuration and deployment, troubleshooting, testing, and preparing components for production. The role may collaborate with Lead Engineers on infrastructure design and selection and with project teams on production readiness.

Requirements

• At least 4 years of experience building and supporting large-scale data center networks.
• Good understanding of data center technologies such as VXLAN/EVPN.
• Strong knowledge of routing protocols such as OSPF, ISIS, and BGP.
• Strong knowledge of switching technologies such as spanning tree, port channels, and MLAG.
• Strong knowledge of TCP, UDP, and IP.
• Experience with routing and switching platforms such as Cisco Nexus 9000, Arista 7280, and Arista 7050.
• Good understanding of security infrastructure such as firewalls and IPSEC/SSL VPNs.
• Willingness to learn new technologies and adapt to a fast-paced, service-driven environment.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in networking.
• Must be eligible to work in the United States for American Express; the company will not pursue visa sponsorship.

Responsibilities

• Participate in current-state system analysis, requirements gathering, and documentation.
• Assist with creating technical design and implementation documentation.
• Work with Lead Engineers on infrastructure design and selection, as needed.
• Assist with configuration and implementation deployments.
• Troubleshoot infrastructure compatibility issues based on system architecture, project requirements, and customer expectations.
• Participate in test planning and execution.
• Work with project teams to prepare components for production, as needed.
• Escalate issues, provide feedback, and propose changes to infrastructure specifications.
• Perform network moves, adds, and changes, including network device installation and configuration.
