About The Position

American Express’s Data Center network engineering team is seeking an experienced network engineer to support the deployment, build, and support of datacenter network infrastructure. The role uses switching platforms and technologies such as Cisco Nexus and Arista. The engineer participates in infrastructure analysis, requirements gathering, design and implementation documentation, configuration and deployment, troubleshooting, testing, and preparation of components for production. The position may involve working with Lead Engineers on infrastructure design and selection and with project teams to prepare components for production.

Requirements

• At least 4 years of experience building and supporting large-scale datacenter networks.
• Good understanding of datacenter technologies such as VXLAN/EVPN.
• Strong knowledge of routing protocols such as OSPF, ISIS, and BGP.
• Strong knowledge of switching technologies such as spanning tree, port channels, and MLAG.
• Strong knowledge of TCP, UDP, and IP.
• Experience with routing and switching platforms such as Cisco Nexus 9000, Arista 7280, and Arista 7050.
• Good understanding of security infrastructure such as firewalls and IPSEC/SSL VPNs.
• Willingness to learn new technologies and adapt to a fast-paced, service-driven environment.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in networking.
• Must be eligible to work in the United States; American Express will not pursue visa sponsorship for these positions.

Responsibilities

• Participate in current-state system analysis, requirements gathering, and documentation.
• Assist with creating technical design and implementation documentation.
• Work with Lead Engineers in infrastructure design and selection, as needed.
• Assist with configuration and implementation deployments.
• Troubleshoot infrastructure compatibility issues based on system architecture, project requirements, and customer expectations.
• Participate in test planning and execution.
• Work with project teams to prepare components for production, as needed.
• Escalate issues, provide feedback, and propose changes to infrastructure specifications.
• Perform network moves, adds, and changes, including network device installation and configuration.
