About The Position

At this time, we have an outstanding career opportunity available, as we're looking for the right person to serve as Information Technology Technician in the Business Systems division of the Information Technology Services Department. The ideal candidate for this role should possess a mix of technical skills, problem-solving ability, and strong customer focus, backed by one year of hands-on experience in software development and application support. They should be skilled in Windows OS, Python, Java, ASP.NET, and C#, with a solid understanding of databases, ETL processes, and SSRS reporting. The candidate should also have experience in installing, configuring, and troubleshooting business applications, ensuring seamless integration and functionality. Excellent communication skills and a customer-first mindset are required to provide effective support and ensure a positive user experience. Finally, the candidate must demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning and staying up to date with emerging technologies and best practices in IT and application support. The Information Technology Services (ITS) Department provides essential internal services to all City departments through the integration of people, processes and technology to increase efficiencies and effectiveness, serving as the technology foundation that enables the City to function securely and reliably. We recognize the importance of partnering with City departments to develop technology solutions that are innovative, secure, reliable, cost effective and scalable. We believe in the concept of future proofing these solutions to ensure a sustainable working model that continues to deliver successful results. Information Services is organized into three divisions: Technology Engagement & Support, Business Applications and Infrastructure Systems. Additional responsibilities such as administration, cyber security, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and public safety are distributed equally throughout the department.

Requirements

  • One (1) year of experience working with computer hardware including desktops, laptops, tablets, mobile devices, networking equipment, printers, and configuration of said hardware and associated software.
  • High school diploma or equivalent certificate.
  • Possession of a valid California Class C driver’s license and an acceptable driving record are required at the time of appointment and throughout employment.
  • Must be able to respond to emergency services call out.
  • Must pass a comprehensive background investigation.
  • Employees regularly assigned/required to drive a city or personal vehicle in the course and scope of work shall be required to participate in the DMV Employer Pull Notice program.
  • All Huntington Beach city employees are required to perform assigned disaster service worker duties in the event of an emergency or a disaster.

Nice To Haves

  • College-level coursework (minimum 30 semester units) in computer science or other related field preferred.
  • Associate’s degree in computer science or other closely related field desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Learns and performs a variety of entry and intermediate-level technical duties in support of minicomputer systems, local and wide area networks, and associated peripheral equipment.
  • Responds to service requests for assistance with problems related to computer hardware, software, peripheral devices, or audio visual equipment; performs remote desktop or on-site assessment to determine cause of problems.
  • Performs basic installation, operation and maintenance of computers and peripheral equipment; tests and sets up basic hardware and software configurations; performs basic maintenance and repair on system components.
  • Utilizes and updates system maintenance logs and other tools to prepare, track, and respond to service request tickets and work orders.
  • Assists with routine system backups, upgrades and/or other hardware/software support activities.
  • Connects computers to printers, scanners, personal digital assistants and other peripheral equipment; loads software.
  • Performs routine system support duties such as monitoring or adding users/devices, modifying user profiles, re-setting passwords and performing regular file maintenance; sets up basic user access permissions; documents all changes and revisions.
  • Coordinates with manufacturers for all warranty services equipment.
  • Performs asset inventory and prepares and maintains system documentation.
  • Configures, maintains and updates all city-wide operating system software images for desktop, laptop, and mobile device computers using imaging software.
  • Receives and responds to customer requests; maintains user accounts and access levels for assigned computer systems.
  • Sets up audio visual and computer equipment in conference rooms and other locations for meetings.
