About The Position

Responsible technical and administrative work performing entry-level to journey-level geographic information systems (GIS) support functions involving spatial data maintenance, asset record management, mapping, and GIS data processing activities. Work includes maintaining and updating geospatial databases, interpreting engineering and infrastructure records, supporting field data collection efforts, performing quality assurance reviews, and providing technical support for GIS-related projects. Employees in this class have regular contact with departmental personnel and GIS users to exchange information, resolve routine issues, coordinate work activities, and support the maintenance of accurate and reliable GIS data. Related work is performed as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Computer Science, Computer Information Systems (CIS), Geography, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Associate's Degree in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Computer Science, Computer Information Systems (CIS), Geography, or a related field from an accredited college or university and two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in the support, design and/or implementation of Geographic Information database mapping systems (GIS).
  • High School Diploma or GED and four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in the support, design and/or implementation of Geographic Information database mapping systems (GIS).
  • An Esri Technical Certification or Esri Professional Certification may substitute for one (1) year of the required experience.
  • Applicants must provide original documents of their qualifying credentials to the hiring agency prior to their start date.
  • Minimum age of 18 years for any class of work requiring hard physical labor, operation of or proximity to hazardous machinery, exposure to hazardous chemicals, or participation in any other processes or procedures which are prohibited or limited by the Louisiana State Child Labor Law.
  • Good moral character is required of all applicants.
  • Applicants who are licensed to drive should have a current license on their person for purposes of identification during all phases of an examination.
