About The Position

The Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) is seeking a Senior Java development professional for its Web Team. This position is 100% onsite near downtown Lincoln, Nebraska. The role involves working daily with team members to support the Nebraska Public Employees Retirement Systems on Java web development projects. Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent in computer science, information systems, mathematics, engineering or other related field and two years of experience, education, or training in coding computer applications; programming experience can be substituted for education on a year for year basis
  • Service oriented
  • Strong interpersonal and analytical skills that include working directly with various levels of business and technical staff to determine sound technical solutions for business requirements
  • Strong technical, organization and planning, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Regular and reliable attendance required

  • Experience with all aspects of the software development lifecycle and workflow, estimating and target date planning, work plan development and monitoring, quality assurance, production support, development methods/techniques and testing methods and techniques, solution development, evaluation of alternatives and mentoring
  • Experience using Azure DevOps and Agile methodologies, GIT, Eclipse 4.12+, Rational Application Developer (RAD 9.5+), Java 8+, Servlets, XML, CSS, HTML, HTML5, XHTML, JSP, JavaScript, JQuery, SVN, Microsoft SQL 2012 and 2016 Databases, SSMS, Apache Tomcat 8+, Websphere Application Server, Struts, Ajax, Generics, SonarQube and or SonarLint, Apache Maven and or Ant, as well as basic office tools such as Microsoft Office, Clarity, and SharePoint
  • Experience working with and supporting the following agencies and areas: Nebraska Public Employees Retirement Systems

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for all phases of new development or maintenance of web development projects
  • Daily consulting with business analysts and clients within the Nebraska Public Employees Retirement Systems
  • Mentoring other developers
  • Use web application development tools and utilities as appropriate
  • Designing, coding, debugging, testing, and documenting programs in Java daily
  • Perform the functional and technical design and implementation in a large-scale IT environment including consideration of existing automated systems with limited supervision
  • Participate in the full range of software product development activities, including requirements gathering, analysis and definition, coding and testing, and production support with limited supervision
  • Other duties as assigned and within the scope of the classification
