Join the Oregon Department of Agriculture (ODA) as a Systems Administrator (Information Systems Specialist 6 – ISS6). We are looking for someone who wants to make a difference. Key areas of responsibility include: Administration of Microsoft Azure infrastructure, virtual servers, storage, networking, and security services. Administration of Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Intune for modern Mobile Device and Windows Management, and related cloud technologies. Management and oversight of infrastructure services delivered through Oregon's Enterprise Information Services (EIS) managed service providers. Support of network infrastructure including firewalls, switches, wireless systems, VPNs, and connectivity services. Advanced troubleshooting and end user support of enterprise systems and applications. Success in this role requires the ability to coordinate technical work through vendors, managed service providers, and statewide technology partners while maintaining accountability for outcomes. At ODA, we’re at the forefront of protecting and promoting Oregon’s agricultural communities and economies. ODA has 38 programs ranging from our staff and constituents in their dusty boots out in the fields to clean high-tech labs that serve every Oregonian. The staff ("aggies") at ODA, are unified in the mission to support our farmers and ranchers across the state. As a Systems Administrator, you will work as a part of the IT team to ensure systems are always available to working for all aggies and the farmers and ranchers they support. The Systems Administrator (ISS6), is a full-time permanent position located in Salem, Oregon.

Requirements

  • Ability to diagnose and resolve root causes rather than repeatedly addressing symptoms.
  • Experience supporting and administering enterprise infrastructure, including cloud-hosted systems, servers, identity services, and business applications.
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365, Entra ID, and modern endpoint management solutions.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues, evaluate options, and implement sustainable solutions.
  • Experience administering identity and access management solutions and applying security best practices.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to build productive working relationships with users, vendors, managed service providers, and technology partners.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Commitment to providing exceptional customer service and creating positive user experiences.

  • Five (5) years of experience administering computer networks, servers, and business systems OR three (3) years of related experience and an associate degree in a related field OR a bachelor's degree in a related field.

Responsibilities

  • Administer and support ODA's Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Intune, and server environments.
  • Monitor system health, performance, backups, and resource utilization to ensure reliable and secure operations.
  • Manage user identities, access, and endpoint management solutions while supporting agency security requirements.
  • Evaluate, test, and deploy operating system, application, and security updates.
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for complex infrastructure and systems issues that cannot be resolved through normal help desk support.
  • Coordinate infrastructure, networking, and security support activities with Enterprise Information Services (EIS), managed service providers, vendors, and other technology partners.
  • Document systems, procedures, solutions, and knowledge articles to improve support quality and operational consistency.
  • Assist with the planning, implementation, and support of new technologies, infrastructure improvements, and agency technology projects.
  • Provide technical guidance, training, and support to IT staff and agency users.
  • Participate in business continuity, disaster recovery, and operational resilience activities.
