This role provides support for a program, organization, system, or enclave's information assurance program. It involves proposing, coordinating, implementing, and enforcing information systems security policies, standards, and methodologies. The position maintains the operational security posture for an information system or program to ensure information systems security policies, standards, and procedures are established and followed. The ISSO assists with the management of security aspects of the information system and performs day-to-day security operations of the system. They evaluate security solutions to ensure they meet security requirements for processing classified information and perform vulnerability/risk assessment analysis to support certification and accreditation. This role also provides configuration management (CM) for information system security software, hardware, and firmware, and manages changes to the system, assessing their security impact. The ISSO prepares and reviews documentation, including System Security Plans (SSPs), Risk Assessment Reports, Certification and Accreditation (C&A) packages, and System Requirements Traceability Matrices (SRTMs). They support security authorization activities in compliance with the National Institute of Standards and Technology Risk Management Framework (NIST RMF). The Level 1 Information Systems Security Officer (ISSO) must possess the capabilities to provide support to senior ISSOs, assist with documentation preparation and maintenance, aid in evaluating security solutions, and assist with the CM for information system security software, hardware, and firmware. They will maintain records on various network devices and systems, propose and enforce security policies, develop and maintain documentation for C&A, and provide CM for security-relevant system components. The ISSO will develop system security policy, ensure compliance, evaluate security solutions, maintain the operational security posture, and support the Information System Security Manager (ISSM). They will develop and update the system security plan and other IA documentation, assist with system security management and daily operations, and administer user identification and authentication mechanisms.
