About The Position

The Information and Referral (I&R) Coordinator, Spanish & English responds to questions from individuals, families, and the community about disability services and supports in Spanish or English as needed. This role involves informing and providing outreach about developmental disabilities, disability support services, special education services, and other related topics through workshops and community events. The coordinator will also collaborate with all outreach and advocacy teams to support individual, family, and systems advocacy.

Requirements

  • A minimum of one year’s experience interacting with and supporting people with intellectual and other developmental disabilities (IDD) and their families
  • Ability to interact with individuals with IDD and their families or care providers in a sensitive, respectful, and confidential manner
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals of diverse economic, ethnic, and social backgrounds
  • Ability to learn about IDD and community resources through experience, on-the-job training, and other professional development opportunities and to successfully relay that information to individuals with IDD and their families
  • Ability to explain things in plain language, so people with cognitive disabilities or those who do not speak English as a first language understand
  • Ability to learn and implement State of Washington Mandatory Reporting requirements for children and vulnerable adults
  • Excellent communication skills, interpersonal skills, and ability to work with a team
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to be self-directed and to work independently and as a team member
  • Ability to set professional boundaries
  • Ability to persevere in the face of obstacles
  • Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook; Forms; One Drive and SharePoint, Teams, etc)
  • Simple graphic design for event flyers (Canva)
  • Zoom webinar platform; and other required technology
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check
  • Ability to use phone, email, and internet with ease
  • Ability to travel anywhere in King County as needed (if driving, must have a WA driver’s license and car insurance; if not driving, ability to be punctual when traveling anywhere in King County)
  • Ability to bring resource materials to community events

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in social work or related field from a recognized, accredited college or university
  • Relevant experience may substitute for education
  • A combination of education, experience, and measurable performance that demonstrates the capability to perform the duties of this position
