About The Position

The Arc of King County serves individuals with intellectual and other developmental disabilities (IDD) and their families across the lifespan, from prenatal diagnosis through end-of-life care. Our programs include: Information and Family Support for individuals with IDD, their family members, and community; Supported Living Services for adults living in the community; and Public Policy and Civic Engagement for people who want to ensure communities and public services work for people with IDD. The Arc promotes and protects the human and civil rights of people with IDD, actively supporting their full inclusion so that they can live, learn, work, and play in the community – making the world a better place for us all. The Information and Referral (I&R) Coordinator, Spanish & English: Responds to questions from individuals, families, and community about disability services and supports, in Spanish or English as needed. Informs and provides outreach about developmental disabilities, disability support services, special education services, and other related topics through workshops and community events; Collaborates with all outreach and advocacy teams to support individual, family, and systems advocacy. This is a full-time, non-exempt position.

Requirements

  • A minimum of one year’s experience interacting with and supporting people with intellectual and other developmental disabilities (IDD) and their families.
  • Ability to interact with individuals with IDD and their families or care providers in a sensitive, respectful, and confidential manner.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals of diverse economic, ethnic, and social backgrounds.
  • Ability to learn about IDD and community resources through experience, on-the-job training, and other professional development opportunities and to successfully relay that information to individuals with IDD and their families.
  • Ability to explain things in plain language, so people with cognitive disabilities or those who do not speak English as a first language understand.
  • Ability to learn and implement State of Washington Mandatory Reporting requirements for children and vulnerable adults.
  • Excellent communication skills, interpersonal skills, and ability to work with a team.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to be self-directed and to work independently and as a team member.
  • Ability to set professional boundaries.
  • Ability to persevere in the face of obstacles.
  • Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook; Forms; One Drive and SharePoint, Teams, etc).
  • Simple graphic design for event flyers (Canva).
  • Zoom webinar platform; and other required technology.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work or related field from a recognized, accredited college or university.
  • Relevant experience may substitute for education.
  • A combination of education, experience, and measurable performance that demonstrates the capability to perform the duties of this position.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of services and resources, including Early Supports for Infants and Toddlers; special education services (preK through grade 12 and transition); services administered by DSHS Developmental Disabilities Administration such as personal care, supported employment, community residential and respite; as well as related state and federal supports that the IDD community relies on.
  • Ensures questions are accurately and quickly answered or referred to other team members. Information and referral questions may come through in-person events or office visits, email, phone, or social media connections.
  • Answers questions and provides outreach and education through 1:1 consultation via phone, email, video, or in-person.
  • Conducts or assists with workshops and provides outreach at community events where information about The Arc and IDD resources are shared.
  • Helps create, maintain, and organize resources and materials, including our online resource guide and relevant event notices.
  • Provides culturally appropriate support and plain language information on how disability systems work.
  • Makes program activities and resources accessible to people with disabilities and to diverse cultural communities in terms of accommodation, language access, location, and other cultural considerations utilizing The Arc’s diverse team and interpreters, as needed.
  • Supports people in Spanish and English. We anticipate 3 days in Spanish and 2 days in English.
  • Supports program evaluation.
  • Ensures program documentation and materials are up to date, including on-going timely, accurate Salesforce data entry.
  • Critically evaluate program activities for effectiveness and regularly consult with supervisor.
  • Proactively participate in team, department and agency meetings to achieve program goals.
  • Maintains good relationships with community stakeholders.
  • Partner with the civic engagement team to share resources and opportunities.
  • Other duties as assigned to fulfill program goals and/or contractual requirements.
