About The Position

The State of Montana's Department of Revenue, Technology Services Division (TSD), is seeking an Information Protection Specialist. This role is crucial for maintaining the appropriate operational information protection posture for the department's information systems. The specialist will be responsible for developing and implementing Information Protection (IP) policy and procedure, coordinating the identification, implementation, and assessment of common information protection controls, and ensuring employees have the necessary access to perform their duties. The position involves evaluating and recommending measures to maintain required levels of information protection, reviewing information systems security procedures, providing system documentation and user support, evaluating security events, and developing policies for investigating and referring incidents. This position reports directly to the Chief Information Protection Officer (IPO) and does not supervise staff.

  • Computer equipment and technology systems used, or likely to be used, by the department
  • Disaster recovery planning and implementation

  • Bachelor’s degree in computers, information systems, or closely related field.

Responsibilities

  • Developing and implementing Information Protection (IP) policy and procedure.
  • Coordinating the identification, implementation, and assessment of common information protection controls.
  • Ensuring employees are provisioned the necessary access to effectively execute their duties.
  • Evaluating and recommending measures for department operations to maintain required levels of information protection.
  • Reviewing information systems security procedures.
  • Providing system documentation and user support to ensure the continuity and compliance of department business operations.
  • Evaluating real or suspected events within the agency.
  • Developing agency policies, standards, and procedures for evaluating and referring the investigation to other qualified entities, including law enforcement.
  • Providing resolution recommendations.
