About The Position

Under the direction of the Information Governance Senior Manager, the Information Governance Supervisor will be responsible for supervision of Information Governance staff and coordination and enforcement of policies and procedures to support the firm’s Information Governance initiatives. This position will oversee Information Governance efforts including defining performance objectives, determining acceptable performance levels, leading collaborative projects with other departments throughout the firm, and providing training to ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and operational requirements and standard operating procedures.

  • Knowledge of defensible disposition principles, records retention practices, and information lifecycle management.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced, deadline-driven, detail-oriented work environment.
  • Strong collaboration and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to work effectively across offices, practices, and business teams.
  • Solid understanding of electronic repositories and information organization principles, with experience managing data across cloud and enterprise content environments, including importing, validating, and reconciling metadata to support reporting and lifecycle management activities.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality of firm records and information.
  • Ability to work outside of normal business hours when necessary to meet the demands and needs of the firm.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, computer science, information management, or related field.
  • Minimum six years of work experience in legal records and information governance management/retention, project management, or similar field.
  • Minimum two years of experience managing high-achieving teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in legal, professional services, or other highly regulated environments is preferred.
  • Experience managing or partnering with third-party vendors in support of operational services or technology-enabled workflows.
  • Experience with workflow management applications such as ServiceNow.
  • Knowledge of and experience working with structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data.
  • Knowledge of industry best practices and data privacy compliance laws, including the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA).
  • Experience with analytics and reporting tools such as SQL Reporting Services, Python, PowerShell, and/or Power BI.
  • Professional certifications in areas related to information governance not required but preferred (e.g., Information Governance Professional (IGP), Electronic Records Management (ERM), Certified Records Manager (CRM), Enterprise Content Management (ECM), Six Sigma Certification, Lean Certification).

Responsibilities

  • Directly supervise the day-to-day operations of Information Governance personnel by managing work assignments, quality reviews, and issue resolution, while strategically balancing team workloads and resources to ensure all service expectations, compliance obligations, and shifting business demands are met.
  • Monitor staffing levels, workflows, and operational metrics, and recommend staffing, process, or technology adjustments to improve efficiency, service quality, and risk management.
  • Lead all core people-management responsibilities—from recruiting and onboarding to performance coaching and retention—while actively identifying development opportunities and supporting career growth, cross-training, and succession planning to strengthen overall team capability and continuity.
  • Lead and supervise assigned projects, demonstrating project management and delegation skills for effective use of resources and personnel.
  • Lead and support change-management efforts related to Information Governance initiatives, including new processes, technologies, operating models, and user adoption strategies.
  • Oversee implementation and enforcement of Information Governance policies to ensure compliance with the firm’s legal obligations, operational requirements, and risks.
  • Provide guidance and training to lawyers and business professionals as necessary.
  • Collaborate with Information Governance leadership and cross-functional stakeholders to identify opportunities for efficiencies (including automation) and standardization of practices, as well as tools for privacy and security compliance to closely aligned with firm objectives.
  • Help build strong cross-functional leadership and trusted relationships across the firm to advance shared goals, resolve issues, and improve adoption of Information Governance practices.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and vendors to maintain complete, accurate, and useful metadata and data inventories, and to support reporting, searchability, retention, defensible disposition, and audit readiness.
  • Research, analyze, and resolve operational and compliance issues, escalating matters based on risk and urgency while providing training, guidance, and practical support to lawyers and business professionals to enhance adherence to Information Governance policies and approved practices.
  • Support and promote data governance practices, including data classification, retention alignment, ownership clarity, content hygiene, and lifecycle management across physical and electronic repositories.
  • Support the firm’s goal of reducing unnecessary physical records and improving digital information management practices.
  • Supervise and coordinate Information Governance processes related to lateral onboardings, departures, review, transfer, and disposition activities of physical and electronic client files.
  • Perform other duties, as assigned.
  • Be present at work during regularly scheduled hours and as needed in the position, consistent with the firm’s attendance expectations.
