About The Position

The UNC Department of Pediatrics, Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases, is seeking a highly motivated Research Project Manager to support a growing portfolio of clinical research initiatives focused on human subjects research and improving pediatric infectious disease outcomes. Reporting to the Program Director of the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Fellowship, this role will provide both strategic leadership and hands-on coordination across the full lifecycle of clinical research studies, including planning, execution, and dissemination. The position is responsible for overseeing daily research operations, ensuring compliance with regulatory and institutional requirements, managing IRB submissions and documentation, supporting protocol development, and coordinating efforts among faculty, research staff, trainees, and external collaborators. Additional responsibilities include overseeing data management and analysis, contributing to scholarly publications and presentations, fostering a collaborative research environment through mentorship and partnership, and identifying opportunities to enhance processes and strengthen the Division’s research infrastructure.

Requirements

  • Effective communication (written and spoken) in English and French
  • Ability to build relationships with a variety of constituents (e.g., research PIs, study subjects, regulatory personnel, clinical and administrative staff)
  • Fluency in French (spoken and written) for communication with research teams in Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC)
  • Capacity to manage multiple responsibilities effectively
  • Proven research management abilities with an understanding of the culture, policies, and procedures relevant to academic research programs
  • Significant knowledge and experience with academic research, including funding mechanisms and opportunities, identifying research study needs, proposal development, regulatory and IRB compliance policies, and methods of presentation of research results
  • Familiarity with academic research structures, preferably the organization of the UNC School of Medicine
  • Demonstrated relationship-building skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to communicate complicated issues effectively
  • Ability to work simultaneously on several activities and handle multiple demands with efficiency and professionalism
  • Willingness and ability to travel to DRC and other locations for research activities and dissemination
