About The Position

The Infection Preventionist at Southern Utah Veterans Home is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring infection prevention and control programs to ensure the health and safety of residents, staff, and visitors. This role involves surveillance, education, and compliance with regulatory standards to minimize the risk of infection within the facility.

Requirements

• Registered Nurse (RN) or (LPN) or other healthcare professional with relevant clinical background preferred.
• Knowledge of infection prevention principles, epidemiology, and healthcare regulations.
• Experience in long-term care or skilled nursing facility settings preferred.
• Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
• Proficiency with data collection, analysis, and reporting tools.

Nice To Haves

• Certification in Infection Control (CIC) is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain infection prevention and control policies and procedures in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations.
• Conduct ongoing surveillance of infections and communicable diseases within the facility.
• Analyze infection data and prepare reports for facility leadership and regulatory agencies.
• Provide education and training to staff, residents, and visitors on infection prevention practices.
• Collaborate with healthcare providers and departments to investigate and manage outbreaks or infection incidents.
• Ensure compliance with Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and other relevant guidelines.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives related to infection control.
• Maintain accurate documentation and records related to infection prevention activities.
• Serve as a resource and consultant on infection prevention matters within the facility.
