About The Position

Accountable to the Manager, the Infection Control Practitioner is responsible for providing infection prevention and control related services within the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) integrated service areas by supporting implementation and maintenance of an effective Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) program, providing training and education related to IPAC and infectious diseases, and by consulting on matters related to IPAC as an expert resource. The incumbent will participate in quality improvement or research activities as needed within the SHA. Requirements

  • Degree in Nursing or relevant Health Sciences Degree acceptable to the Employer
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license
  • Registered/eligible for registration with the appropriate licensing body
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
  • Highly developed written and oral communication skills
  • Knowledge in epidemiologic principles, statistics and microbiology
  • Knowledge to identify, investigate & control outbreaks of infectious diseases
  • Ability to work in a computerized environment
  • Knowledge of & able to utilize, principles of program development & teaching
  • Ability to communicate components of infection control to staff and patients
  • Demonstrates effective leadership and management skills

Nice To Haves

  • Current Certification in Infection Control and Epidemiology (CIC) is an asset
  • Previous IPAC Experience strongly recommended
