The Montana Department of Revenue administers approximately 40 state taxes, property appraisals, alcohol beverage laws, cannabis laws, and unclaimed property for the state of Montana. The Property Assessment Division manages Montana’s property assessment and valuation of all taxable property for property tax purposes. PAD is comprised of the Geographic Information System Unit, Program Support Unit, Computer Assisted Mass Appraisal Unit, Industrial Unit, Division Administration team, and approximately 30 local field offices in various counties in Montana. This position resides in the Property Assessment Division of Department of Revenue. The Industrial Appraiser I position is an advanced-level role specializing in the appraisal of industrial and personal properties. Employees at this level assist with the valuation of assigned simple industrial properties to support fair and equitable tax assessments, working under appropriate supervision rather than independently on complex valuations. The position requires knowledge of commercial and industrial appraisal methodologies, including the cost approach to valuation, and the ability to analyze property characteristics that may at times be complex or unique. While the role does not include mentoring less-experienced staff, it may involve responding to inquiries from lower-level appraisers and supporting departmental appraisal functions through accurate data analysis, clear written and verbal communication, and collaboration with senior industrial appraisal staff. This position does not supervise other staff. This position is open to ANY PAD field office with available space.
