About The Position

This position resides in the Property Assessment Division of the Department of Revenue. The Industrial Appraiser I position is an advanced-level role specializing in the appraisal of industrial and personal properties. Employees at this level assist with the valuation of assigned simple industrial properties to support fair and equitable tax assessments, working under appropriate supervision rather than independently on complex valuations. The position requires knowledge of commercial and industrial appraisal methodologies, including the cost approach to valuation, and the ability to analyze property characteristics that may at times be complex or unique. While the role does not include mentoring less-experienced staff, it may involve responding to inquiries from lower-level appraisers and supporting departmental appraisal functions through accurate data analysis, clear written and verbal communication, and collaboration with senior industrial appraisal staff. This position does not supervise other staff. This position is open to ANY PAD field office with available space.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, economics, appraisal, construction technology, or a related field.
  • Four years of job-related experience in appraisal, property tax appraisal, assessment, auditing, agriculture, forestry, surveying, real estate, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of cost, income, and comparable sales approaches for valuing industrial, commercial, and personal properties.
  • Knowledge of industrial and personal property appraisal theory and methods.
  • Knowledge of construction practices, mapping, Cadastral systems, and quality classifications.
  • Knowledge of land modeling, depreciation schedules, and cap rates.
  • Knowledge of environmental factors influencing industrial property valuation.
  • Knowledge of Department systems, property databases, and related technology tools.
  • Skills in research, analysis, and complex appraisal techniques.
  • Skills in accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Skills in conflict resolution and problem-solving.
  • Skills in Microsoft programs and other database applications.
  • Skills in advanced written, verbal, and interpersonal communication.
  • Demonstrate self-motivation.
  • Follow instructions and departmental procedures.
  • Deliver timely and effective citizen service.
  • Prioritize and manage work under deadlines.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred work experience includes property appraisal, business valuation, property assessment, construction, financial services, auditing, or related fields.
  • Successful completion of IAAO 101, 102, 300, Ag School, and be current in USPAP.
  • Successful completion of AI General Appraiser Income Approach Part I and General Appraiser Site Valuation and Cost Approach within one year of employment in this position.
