About The Position

The primary purpose and function of this position is to deliver instruction and support student success. This role involves developing course syllabi, outlines, and lesson plans, as well as reviewing and selecting appropriate instructional materials. The instructor will create lectures, classroom activities, and hands-on exercises to facilitate student learning. Responsibilities include monitoring and recording student progress, administering and grading tests, and keeping attendance records. The position also serves as an advisor to assigned students and may be required to teach courses in various formats (in-class, web, hybrid, online). In addition to instruction, the role includes faculty assignments such as recruiting, advising, and retaining students, participating in college and departmental communications, committee assignments, submitting reports, and engaging in the college's assessment process. Maintaining professionalism, current knowledge in the field, and contributing to the College's Quality Enhancement Plan are also key aspects of this position.

Requirements

  • A.A.S. in Industrial Technology, Electronic, Mechatronic or equivalent Industrial Degree.
  • 1-3 years of industry experience.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to perform basic math computations including adding, subtracting, multiplying and averaging all units of measure.
  • Ability to compute fractions, percentages and decimals.
  • Ability to use effective critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills.
  • Proficiency or ability to achieve proficiency in a Windows environment.
  • Knowledge of email systems, PowerPoint, Blackboard & online lab environments, Aviso Retention, and other such PC/web-based tools.

Nice To Haves

  • 5+ years of industry experience.
  • 1+ years teaching experience.
  • License(s) or Certification(s) a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver instruction and support student success.
  • Develop course syllabi, outlines, and lesson plans.
  • Review and select appropriate textbooks and instructional materials.
  • Develop lectures, classroom activities, laboratory, hands-on exercises, and/or actual work site exercises.
  • Monitor and record student progress in courses.
  • Administer tests or other evaluation methods to students; grade and give feedback on exercises, homework assignments, and tests.
  • Keep records of student attendance.
  • Serve as advisor to assigned students.
  • Teach four or more classes per semester, unless altered and approved by the Associate Dean/Chair of Career and Technical Education.
  • Create an effective learning environment.
  • Meet classes as assigned.
  • Present instruction based on the student learning outcomes and performance levels of the course.
  • Use teaching methods designed for a variety of learning styles.
  • Use course text, outlines, syllabi and other curriculum materials in accordance with college and departmental guidelines.
  • Assist with maintaining a classroom environment emphasizing safety, good housekeeping, and equipment security.
  • Maintain a minimum of five office hours per week to advise/assist students and no less than thirty-two hours per week on campus.
  • Participate in communications with the college and department and meet deadlines as required.
  • Participate in committee assignments.
  • Submit required reports.
  • Participate in the college's assessment process, as required.
  • Fulfill all contract provisions.
  • Maintain a high level of professionalism as a representative of the college.
  • Maintain accurate attendance and scholastic records of students.
  • Maintain current knowledge of programs, trends, and new developments in area of expertise.
  • Ensure educational program quality by engaging in continuous improvement through assessment of student learning outcomes.
  • Contribute to the College’s Quality Enhancement Plan.
  • Other Duties as Assigned.
