This position reports directly to the General Foreperson or Department Superintendent. Hourly production workers report to the incumbent. The incumbent must have demonstrated high learning agility, the ability to communicate effectively with all areas of the operation, and 6 to 8 years in manufacturing methods and techniques specific to their assigned area, including: Finishing – Understanding of finishing processes and their variables that impact Safety, Quality, and Productivity. Problems associated with this position include equipment failure, inadequate personnel training, and inadequate housekeeping practices. A majority of the incumbent’s time is spent ensuring safety compliance, training and developing team members, and directing, controlling, delegating, reviewing, checking, and eliminating ordinary difficulties, requiring the use of a wide range of procedures and the exercise of judgment in the analysis of supervisory responsibilities to determine what action would be taken within the limits of standard practice. The balance of the time is spent on such activities as production reports, personnel-related reports and records, safety programs, housekeeping, equipment preparation, and, where applicable, maintenance-related activities. Industrial and human relations are fundamental to the effectiveness of this position, as its most significant challenge is motivating crew members and maintaining discipline and good personnel relations involving the application of company rules, regulations, and other matters affecting their work.
