About The Position

Under general supervision, this role involves the layout, design, installation, assembly, fabrication, maintenance, testing, and repair of pipes and fittings for mechanical utility piping systems and chillers. This includes systems for hot water, chilled water, steam, compressed air, sewer, chemicals, fuel oil, gasses, and other related systems, all in compliance with local and state codes. The position requires reading and understanding system prints and schematics. Responsibilities include working in confined spaces, moving up and down ladders, and working from ladders, scaffolding, and aerial lift platforms.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • 1-year basic plumbing work experience
  • Valid Driver’s License

Nice To Haves

  • 2-years commercial plumbing work experience
  • Plumbing training certificate from BOCES Votec or equivalent

Responsibilities

  • Installs & repairs pipes, fixtures, and valves for water, gas, steam, and air systems.
  • Installs supports for pipes, equipment, and fixtures prior to installation.
  • Assembles fittings and valves for installation.
  • Modifies length of pipes, fixtures, and other plumbing materials as needed.
  • Uses saws and pipe cutters as necessary.
  • Installs heating and air-conditioning systems, including water heaters.
  • Collaborates with contractors, construction workers, electricians, pipefitters, and steamfitters in installing and repairing plumbing systems.
  • Performs inspections of plumbing systems to identify and replace worn parts.
  • Tests plumbing systems for leaks and other problems.
  • Analyses problems and identifies appropriate tools and materials for repair.
  • Follows health and safety standards and complies with building codes.
  • Work at heights in scissor lifts and boom lifts.
  • Operate fork trucks for material movement and unloading of deliveries.
  • Ensure proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies.
  • Promote continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
  • Order materials and parts for job execution.
  • Use current CMMS work order system to process and complete job assignments.
  • Access Building Management System to review HVAC systems and make changes if needed.
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
