This is a full-time position with a standard 40-hour work week, operating within the Day shift schedule. The role is part of the UF&S MC Operations department. The compensation range for this position is $29.89 - $38.99 per hour, as set forth in the applicable collective bargaining agreement. Individual pay will be determined in accordance with the terms of the collective bargaining agreement.

Requirements

  • Trade school training and 2-3 years experience as a Steamfitter or Plumber; or 4 years of apprentice training and 1-2 years experience as a Steamfitter or Plumber; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Operates, maintains, and repairs equipment and facilities such as high, medium, and low pressure steam piping systems and boilers at outlying properties; domestic hot and cold water systems; pure water systems (deionized and distilled); storm, sanitary and acid waste sewer systems; natural and other gas systems; fire protection systems and swimming pool systems.
  • Repairs, replaces, and installs piping systems.
  • Installs pipe insulation.
  • May guide and direct the work of and train lower classified personnel.
  • Operates, maintains, troubleshoots, repairs, rebuilds, and installs steam pressure reducing valves, steam relief valves, steam traps, steam expansion joints, steam valves, steam heat exchangers, radiators, steam convectors, steam humidifiers, steam and condensate piping, condensate and vacuum return pumps and accessories.
  • Maintains and repairs components of domestic hot and cold water systems and pure water systems, including valves, faucets, flush valves, vacuum breakers, shower facilities and the like.
  • Maintains and repairs storm, sanitary and acid waste systems and equipment including neutralizing equipment, pumps, grease traps, drains, cleaning sewers with high pressure equipment, sinks, toilets, urinals and the like.
  • Maintains and repairs natural and other gas systems and equipment, including regulators, valves and the like.
  • Installs piping from chilled water lines to air conditioning units and installs piping from steam lines to heating units.
  • Cleans and maintains hot water tanks.
  • Installs filtration and water treatment equipment.
  • Repairs, replaces, rebuilds, and installs steam, hot water, pure water, and chilled water coils.
  • Cuts, bends, reams, threads, solders, silver solders, brazes, welds, fuses, beads, leads, etc., the following piping materials: metal, glass, plastic and the like.
  • Reviews and performs work on all systems for proper operation and optimum efficiency and recommends changes to achieve optimum operation.
  • Installs and/or modifies systems and/or equipment from verbal instructions, blueprints, plans, specifications, schematics, and manufacturers' recommendations, etc.
  • Maintains and makes recommendations for maintenance on and in pits and tunnels, as appropriated.
  • Charges and discharges steam lines.
  • Troubleshoots systems and components, identifies problems, and makes repairs.
  • May operate, clean, maintain, repair, and troubleshoot boilers and associated equipment at outlying properties.
  • May operate, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, rebuild, and install pumps, filtration, chemical, circulation, etc., equipment and systems in compliance with Health Department codes.
  • May operate, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, rebuild, and install fire protection systems and equipment, including sprinklers, fire hydrants, pumps, valves and the like.
  • Keeps records and makes reports of daily work, emergency/service calls investigated, service rendered, results of troubleshooting, and general conditions of systems and equipment.
  • Makes recommendations for modifications.
  • Complies with safety regulations of the University and of local, state, and federal agencies.
  • Maintains cleanliness of work area and ensures that tools and equipment are kept in good working order.
  • Performs other duties requiring comparable skill and responsibility as directed.
