This position supports the Industrial Paint Supervisor and Team. The role involves painting structural steel of various sizes, from small parts to large 60' modular skid units. Work will be conducted in both a paint booth and outdoor preparation areas within a fast-paced production environment with continuous material flow.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 2 years related painting, spray gun and Caulking experience.
  • Must be able to read and follow paint data sheets.
  • Must understand and work within NACE and AISC coating requirements.
  • Ability to work carefully and pay attention to detail.
  • Adept at using chemicals in a safe manner.
  • Must be dependable.
  • Exposure to Contaminants (such as pollutants, gases, dust or odors).
  • Noise Level can be distracting or uncomfortable.
  • Stand for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to work with solvents such as acetone, MAK, isopropanol alcohol, isocyanates (catalysts/hardeners) and other paint related materials.
  • Must wear all required PPE (personal protective equipment) for the area.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. and have stamina to work long hours on their feet; should be able to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl or climb and work from a ladder.
  • Good Vision ability to include: color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.
  • Takes direction well, ability to work independently and in a group.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge in Alkyd enamel and epoxy paint a plus.
  • Manufacturing experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Grind, sand, prime, or seal surfaces prior to painting.
  • Clean surfaces to ensure proper adherence and quality.
  • Calculate amounts of required materials and inform supervisor of shortages.
  • Apply several coats according to paint directions and supervisor directions.
  • Tape off no spray/machine surface areas when needed.
  • Apply touchups or second coats during the production process and at time of shipping.
  • Inspect painted product for any runs, sags, or unpainted areas and retouches as required per specifications.
  • Work with supervisor in picking quality paint and equipment for best efficiencies and overall best quality.
  • Clean up all equipment, including brushes, spray guns, hoses, pumps, etc.
  • Work on ladders to reach high ceilings or walls.
  • Work on and under machines to properly apply primer and paint.
  • Assists in cleaning of the paint booth and wash bay areas.
  • Assist grind department in material handling and preparation when needed.
  • Handle paint, paint related materials and paint related hazardous wastes properly.
  • Perform other essential duties as assigned.
