Industrial ML Software Engineer

Vertiv•Westerville, OH

About The Position

The Industrial ML Software Engineer joins Vertiv’s thermal engineering team to develop AI/ML-powered control systems, digital twins, and simulation infrastructure for data center cooling equipment. The role works closely with mechanical and controls engineers to develop and implement intelligent system control strategies, primarily using Python and C/C++ on Linux-based platforms with containerized development environments and CI/CD pipelines. The position supports simulation environments for controls development and testing, including FMU/FMI standards and equipment Reduced Order Models (ROMs). It also contributes to digital twin development, maintains FMU packages for simulation deployment, develops and validates machine-learning models for thermal-system control and monitoring, and deploys inference pipelines on Linux industrial platforms. The role interfaces with equipment and simulations through industrial protocols, messaging systems, and APIs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree (MS or higher) in Computer Science and Engineering or Electrical and Computer Engineering, with a strong emphasis on software.
  • At least 2 years of experience in a similar position.
  • Python programming.
  • C/C++ programming.
  • Experience with TensorFlow or PyTorch.
  • Experience with Git/GitLab.
  • Experience with Linux.
  • Experience with Docker or containerization.
  • Knowledge of industrial communication protocols, including MQTT, Modbus, and CAN.

Responsibilities

  • Support simulation environments used for controls development and testing, using standards such as FMU/FMI and equipment Reduced Order Models (ROMs).
  • Create Reduced Order Models based on real or synthetic unit, system, or environmental data.
  • Support digital twin development and implementation.
  • Maintain FMU packages for simulation deployment.
  • Investigate alternative control strategies involving machine-learning models, reinforcement learning, model-predictive control (MPC), and other data-based solutions.
  • Develop, train, and validate machine-learning models for adaptive thermal-system control, predictive maintenance, and anomaly detection.
  • Deploy machine-learning inference pipelines on Linux-based industrial platforms.
  • Interface with equipment and simulations using industrial protocols, publish-subscribe messaging, and APIs such as Modbus, CAN, MQTT, REST, and HTTP/REST.
