About The Position

The Maintenance Apprentice is a member of the Maintenance team and reports to the Maintenance Manager. The successful candidate will participate in the apprenticeship program in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) and Trade Apprenticeship Contract Agreement while developing the skills, knowledge, and experience required to become a qualified Industrial Mechanic (Millwright).

Requirements

  • Proof that the apprentice applicant is registered with the apprenticeship branch for the trade being applied for.
  • Verifiable evidence of work completed that aligns with or is associated with maintenance competencies.

Nice To Haves

  • Excellent ability to follow instructions, trainable in trouble shooting and able to work collaboratively.
  • Highly motivated learner, curious mind; able to work occasionally independently and under supervision.
  • Effective communication skills, able to complete computer-based workorders and good record keeping.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts, weekends, overtime, and statutory holidays as required by operational needs and in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • Any Sanitary Stainless Steel welding experience, or demonstratable knowledge or training in welding.
  • Any Electrical and PLC troubleshooting experience, or demonstratable knowledge or training.
  • 4th class power engineering certification or Steam Boiler experience, or demonstratable knowledge or training.
  • Refrigeration and air handling systems experience, or demonstratable knowledge or training.
  • Prior schooling in a mechanical trade school, pre-apprenticeship, technology, or engineering program is preferred.
  • A sponsor/mentor reference from a current maintenance tradesperson is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out reactive, predictive, and preventative maintenance on plant equipment to ensure optimal performance.
  • Troubleshoot and repair equipment during breakdowns to minimize downtime and maintain productivity.
  • Perform equipment modifications, including repairing parts as needed to support operational improvements.
  • Work effectively in a processing environment while upholding strict health safety and health safety standards.
  • Take on additional responsibilities as assigned by the Maintenance Manager or designated leadership.
