About The Position

The Industrial Mechanic I is responsible for making structurally sound welding repairs to Plant equipment, miscellaneous parts and other structural components within the facility. He/she also performs various tasks and projects that require proficient fabrication skills. This position will also perform minor repairs and general maintenance to mobile equipment such as Loaders, Forklifts and other yard vehicles. Above average mechanical skills are needed to be able to work closely with the Industrial mechanic II to maintain machinery and mechanical equipment used in the production process of the pipe manufacturing facility.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Must be proficient in the use oxy/fuel cutting torches and related cutting tools as well as SMAW (Stick), MIG (Wire) and Flux Core welding processes. Must be able to perform these skills in both “field environment conditions” as well as in the Shop.
  • Fabrication skills should include the ability to layout and accurately calculate measurements for various projects and repairs. The ability to read welding schematics and work from blueprints is a must.
  • Must be capable of executing welds in all positions with all types of metals and alloys in various shapes, including pipes, structural forms, plates, sheet metal, and bar stock.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Knowledge of Word Processing software
  • Read, write & speak English in a clear and effective manner.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Understands all applicable plant safety rules and regulations and makes sure that all are being followed.

Nice To Haves

  • A welding or mechanical maintenance certification or technical degree preferred.
  • Ability to read documents such as operating and maintenance instructions, procedure/equipment manuals as well as electrical/Mechanical schematic drawings.
  • Knowledge of general manufacturing processes, procedures, and machinery preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Repair and maintain manufacturing equipment using Welding tools and power tools
  • Install, maintain, repair, troubleshoot, and modify equipment and machinery when needed.
  • Assists other mechanics and electricians as needed.
  • Routinely check the performance of mechanical equipment.
  • Maintain company vehicles, loaders and forklifts.
  • Operate within standard operating procedures (SOPs) and Job Safety Analysis (JSAs).
  • Properly maintain maintenance records, inspection reports, and processing Work Orders.
  • Ensure a clean and safe work area. Must follow all PPE policies and safety rules.
  • Make necessary equipment repairs during the shift to maintain equipment availability for production.
  • Participate in production startups, shutdowns, and changeovers as it pertains to equipment reliability and availability.
  • Perform required Daily; Weekly, Quarterly and Annual check sheets as established by the Maintenance Department and O.E.M. suppliers.
  • Work on projects that require welding and fabrication.
  • Attend Line-Out meetings to communicate daily activities between incoming and outgoing Maintenance shift crews.
  • Complete Maintenance shift reports and corresponding paper work.
  • Communicate daily with Loader Operators to discuss general condition of mobile equipment.
  • Other duties as assigned.
