About The Position

Under direct supervision, the Industrial Hygiene Specialist I is responsible for implementing and administering project industrial hygiene programs affecting employee, public safety and occupational health and performs basic and routine duties in a wide range of industrial hygiene disciplines to achieve compliance with the ES&H standards along with federal and state regulatory requirements; serves as a resource for line management to administer a proactive prevention program for occupational accidents and illnesses; assists in the development, implementation and maintenance of safety and health programs, systems and procedures; assists in monitoring and controlling hazards that could be present in the work area; works with others to investigate accidents, injuries and complaints concerning hazards in the workplace; participates in recommending improvement in processes, design, procedures and equipment to minimize hazards; participates in employee training, emergency preparedness and assures the quality of programs. This position may require shift work to support plant operations. This position shall be performed under the day-to-day direction, control, and supervision of WTCC MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES/TASKS Support the Waste Treatment Plant Nuclear Safety Quality Culture by emphasizing the values of safety and quality in the performance of work in order to protect self, others, and the environment. Other tasks may be assigned, based on business needs and the department supervisors request. Provides technical assistance to office and field operations to ensure compliance with applicable international, Federal, State, and/or Company health and safety regulations. Conducts compliance evaluations of equipment, structures, and work in progress to ensure that regulatory environmental, safety and health standards of the Company and all applicable codes are followed. Recommends facilities and technological specifications to carry out programs that fulfill the organization's overall objectives. Prepares technical reports, correspondence and program compliance documents. Maintains permits as required. Meets applicable regulatory codes and standards where required. Industrial Hygiene Specialists I are expected to pursue and/or complete professional development opportunities such as a professional certification.

Requirements

  • BS/MS in safety, Health or Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Engineering. Appropriate training and experience commensurate with the responsibilities of the position may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Minimum 0 - 3 years or MS degree 0 years’ experience in a nuclear, heavy construction, chemical processing or petroleum refining environment.
  • Must be authorized to work and remain in the United States without Amentum visa sponsorship now or in the future.
  • Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check which includes verification of employment and education.
  • Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the Hanford Site.

Nice To Haves

  • ABIH Certification (CIH) Preferred.
  • Experience in a nuclear, heavy construction, chemical processing or petroleum refining environment is preferred.

  • Review and generation of Safety and Health reports, records, etc.
  • Development/management of Safety and Health process/procedure, training, metrics, etc.
  • Perform Safety and Health surveillances and assessments.
  • Records generation, instrumentation and equipment management, and other industrial safety/hygiene functions.
  • Oversights and mentors Line Management and workers on the implementation of industrial safety/hygiene hazard controls.
  • Responds to events providing injury/illness response, monitoring of conditions, etc.
  • Hazard analysis and control determinations in support of project work activities.
  • Conducts oversight and monitoring during work task performance to verify that exposure control mechanisms are sufficient to protect workers.
