About The Position

As the Industrial Hygienist – EHS Specialist, you will be responsible for establishing, implementing, managing, and continuously improving the environment, health, and safety programs, strategic objectives and targets for the facility. You will be responsible for leading programs aimed at reducing chemical exposure risks and managing compliance to the Haleon Chemical Agent Standard, related Technical Support Documents, and local statutory requirements. The Industrial Hygienist – EHS Specialist will provide guidance in managing budgets to support outside services and operating expenses. The role includes strategic EHS planning as well as a tactical role for site-wide EHS systems, EHS regulations, and best practices. This specialist will have broad knowledge of EHS programs and EHS specialty areas including Industrial Safety, Environmental Engineering, Safety Engineering, and Risk Management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in related discipline (e.g. environmental or safety management, engineering, or science).
  • 3 years' experience in the field of Industrial Hygiene.
  • Experience in managing Industrial Hygiene and Ergonomics risks in the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), Pharmaceutical or related high-hazard sector.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified/Registered Industrial Hygienist with an internationally recognized professional organization.
  • Knowledge of Safety and Environmental requirements and regulations; any formal education around these requirements is preferred.
  • Knowledge in the use of any of the following databases: Cority IH, 3E, VEHS (Humantech) Industrial and office Ergonomics, and Bayesian Statistics (IHDA Data Analyst).
  • Good relationship building and networking, to engage effectively with site personnel, senior management, EHS and Regional leads.
  • Experience leading or participating in wellness programs (nutrition, health and wellbeing).

Responsibilities

  • Help to ensure the health, safety, and wellbeing of employees on site providing guidance and support to management, project teams, and employees.
  • May act as Ergonomics SME as well.
  • Establish programs to identify and assess workplace exposure risk such as chemical agents (dust, solvent, asbestos) and physical agents (noise, vibration, laser).
  • Develop strategies and programs to manage exposures at source as low as reasonably practicable (ALARP) and removes the need for personal protective equipment (PPE) (lowest form of control).
  • Help create a work environment that is clean and comfortable for the scientists allowing them to perform at their best, free from distractions (like noise).
  • Lead respiratory protection and hearing surveillance programs through establishing sampling protocol and implementing interim and long-term solutions.
  • Collaborate with other professionals to develop engineering controls, administrative controls, and personal protective equipment (PPE) strategies to manage exposure risks.
  • Lead and/or participate in incident investigations relative to chemical and physical exposures using multiple root cause analysis methods (5-why, why tree, etc.)
