About The Position

Turing is seeking an Industrial Engineer with experience in operations optimization, production systems, and process improvement. The role involves applying industrial engineering expertise and analytical reasoning to projects that evaluate and enhance AI systems. No prior AI experience is required. The work explores how AI can support decision-making, workflow analysis, and process automation in manufacturing and operations environments. Day-to-day work includes designing and solving industrial and production engineering problems to test AI reasoning; writing structured solutions involving workflow design, production planning, lean principles, and quality control; evaluating AI responses for accuracy and operational insight; and collaborating with researchers on AI understanding of process optimization, supply chain management, and continuous improvement methods such as Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing. This is a remote contractor/freelance assignment. Projects are approximately one month long, with possible extension. Compensation varies by project. Applicants must not provide confidential, proprietary, trade-secret, internal, or client-specific information, or information that violates confidentiality obligations.

Requirements

  • At least 4 years of experience as an Industrial Engineer, Process Engineer, or Operations Analyst.
  • Currently pursuing or have obtained a bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Operations Management, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools such as Excel, Minitab, or Python.
  • Familiarity with process mapping, workflow design, and optimization techniques.
  • Strong English communication and reasoning skills.
  • Comfortable using web-based tools for data review and annotation.

Responsibilities

  • Design and solve real-world industrial and production engineering problems to test AI reasoning.
  • Write clear, structured solutions covering workflow design, production planning, lean principles, and quality control.
  • Evaluate AI responses for accuracy, analytical soundness, and operational insight.
  • Collaborate with researchers to refine AI understanding of process optimization, supply chain management, and continuous improvement methodologies.

Benefits

  • Strong compensation; exact amount varies by project.
  • Fully remote work environment.
  • Projects may be extended.
