About The Position

Turing is seeking an Industrial Engineer to apply expertise in operations optimization, production systems, and process improvement to projects evaluating and enhancing AI systems. The role involves using industrial engineering knowledge and analytical reasoning to assess how AI can support decision-making, workflow analysis, and process automation in manufacturing and operations. Prior AI experience is not required. The work includes designing and solving real-world industrial and production engineering problems to test AI reasoning, writing structured solutions, evaluating AI responses, and collaborating with researchers to improve AI’s understanding of process optimization, supply chain management, and continuous improvement methods. This is a remote contractor/freelancer assignment. Projects are approximately one month long, with the possibility of extension; the engagement may potentially be full-time. Compensation varies by project. Turing states that it does not seek confidential or proprietary information, trade secrets, internal organizational data, specific client information or case details, or information that would violate confidentiality obligations.

Requirements

  • At least 4 years of experience as an Industrial Engineer, Process Engineer, or Operations Analyst.
  • Currently pursuing or already hold a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Operations Management, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools such as Excel, Minitab, or Python.
  • Familiarity with process mapping, workflow design, and optimization techniques.
  • Strong English communication and reasoning skills.
  • Comfort using web-based tools for data review and annotation.

Responsibilities

  • Design and solve industrial and production engineering problems to test AI reasoning.
  • Write clear, structured solutions involving workflow design, production planning, lean principles, and quality control.
  • Evaluate AI responses for accuracy, analytical soundness, and operational insight.
  • Collaborate with researchers to refine AI understanding of process optimization, supply chain management, and continuous improvement methodologies such as Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing.

Benefits

  • Strong compensation; exact amount varies by project.
  • Fully remote work environment.
  • Projects may be extended beyond the approximately one-month duration.
